Henry VIII at Sandown is a G1 Rubylight so if he runs there next he’ll be unplaced in your mind as he isn’t G1 material. ;-)

Will be another 4-5 runner novice chase. Nothing more, just with a G1 in it’s name

That’s a bit hard Ruby , do you think midnight shadow idled or was he off his feet in the paddy power , mania rightly got the plaudits yesterday for a great ride …. If Skelton had got up it would have been the usual went to early at Cheltenham error , lucki yesterday jumped liked a veteran not a novice , that inc the last , he got a bit tired on the hill but got the job done

If it is anything like last season, it will be a Grade 1 in name only. Like most British Grade 1s.

We will find out how good these Grade 1 winners are when the Mullins/Elliott/De Bromhead runners come over and blow them away at Cheltenham.

Didn’t see Third Time Lucki, yesterday, but I did on his first start this season and my opinion is he takes too long to clear his fences. Let’s see how is the season goes?

HDLG, horses are entitled to get tired once they meet the rising ground at Cheltenham. He wasn’t getting away from Sebastopol who is a very consistent 140s horse, but just doesn’t win. No matter if he faces 1 or 10 opponents.
TTL has to improve a great deal in order to be called a G1 horse.

Ruby it’s very early days for him , he sluiced up first time and yesterday got a bit tired after again another excellent round of jumping , he has to improve but as a novice he surely will , as I said I’m not sure he,s a arkle winner but I can see putting others in trouble with his jumping

“TTL has to improve a great deal in order to be called a G1 horse”.

Not really. He’s one grade away from winning a G1. Regardless of whether the G1 is in Ireland or UK. The comparison between Irish and UK G1 winners taking each other on at the Festival is a different question.
I’m in the Appreciate It camp atm for the Arkle, but it don’t mean that TTL isn’t a grade 1 horse if he wins a grade 1 imo, it just means the Irish may have one or two better.

I sometimes think people forget that Harry’s been around quite a long time. Fond memories of him winning the Irish National on Niche Market. Mike’ll remember that, too!

“Idling is a wide-spread excuse imo. They always “idle” at the end of the race, never in the early stages”.

That’s right Ex-Ruby, “never in the early stages“. Idling only happens when crowd noise reaches a crescendo at the end of a race and Cheltenham’s acoustics can make crowd noise a big factor. Not all horses are affected but many are. Horses are essentially pack animals. Those behind the leader have something to follow and/or to concentrate their minds. It’s also not so bad if the leader is in close proximity to other horses. However, if out on his/her own it can be a big problem putting a horse off, especially at Cheltenham. Willie Mullins uses ear plugs on a lot of his horses for this reason.

Make no mistake, Third Time Lucki’s ability is a lot better than distances back to the placed horses suggest. Yes, Ireland no doubt will have one or two to challenge and may be even beat TTL, but he’ll certainly be one of the best British novices. Will have a bigger chance if Dan decides to put ear plugs in on Arkle day (in the horse’s ears, not the trainer’s). ;-)

    Thanks for your explanation, Ginge.

FF91, he was even better without the whip on West Cork. I think Harry can deliver, but sometimes he’s just too excited about the huge number of great rides and horses his brother can provide him with.

Most likely, we’ll see a lot of good rides fron him this season, but there will also be some we’ll have to talk about.

    All horses are different.
Perfect for Nube Negra is not necessarily perfect for other horses.
