ARDOSS pair clearly saw out the trip, as did OATS and STALKER
Those that didn’t were KEFAAH, MIRROR BOY, ORCHESTRA.
MIRROR BOY & ORCHESTRA offsprings has weakened in their comments which leads me to this conclusion.

May 2, 2010 at 10:35 #293501This was not the classiest of races for the prize, but the lightly raced NARROW WATER is clearly a very interesting stayer. Although his trainer Ferdy Murphy had been seriously considering the National Hunt Chase for amateur riders at the Festival for him, he is now leaning towards the William Hill Handicap Chase.
"Adrian gets on so well with him, he gives him so much confidence that I would like him aboard at Cheltenham, so I’ve entered him for the William Hill," said trainer Ferdy Murphy.
However, with stamina clearly his strong point, Narrow Water is not certain to be as effective over a mile shorter trip, especially on what is likely to be quicker ground.
Last year’s winner SCOTTON GREEN again ran a blinder but was just outstayed after the last while SEVEN TOWERS travelled much better in first time blinkers, and ran another solid race. These three were a distance clear of the remainder.
CAMPAIGN, who was close up and still going well when he fell at the 16th, looked as though he would have been involved in the finish and is certainly worth another chance.
Top weight EDMOND didn’t jump well after his break, while MURT’S MAN was never really at the races on this very testing ground.

BE MY NATIVE: murt’s man[/color:2xdn8v5n]May 4, 2010 at 21:31 #294163First of all have to say, find this post really interesting. Have been trying out the pedigree link etc..
I was interested in NTDs Rimsky – his pedigree has Sadlers Hall and Top Ville yet he does not stay 4 miles having tried many times – why?May 10, 2010 at 17:27 #295126Can’t reply to the Rimsky query. Maybe its something to do with Doyoun???
Here are the Sires who have had a 4 mile winner since 2003. I’m a bit surprised by Be My Native. I’ll have to check him out. Because not many sires have more than a couple of winners, it helps explain why it may be necessary to concentrate more on the Dam’s side.

I’ll do a bit of work on this thread on the next Bank Holiday.
May 10, 2010 at 17:43 #295128Pretty sure that Good Step and Buailtes And Fadas 4m+ wins were in XC races at Punchestown Gerald – generally go a much more sedate gallop early on so seeing out the trip is not neccessarily a requirement for winning.
May 10, 2010 at 19:06 #295149Yes, Kendal Cavalier has mentioned that Cross-Country races should be excluded because of the (lack of) pace, but as I don’t know which particular race(s) is cross-country, I didn’t set a filter to exclude them.
edit: As mentioned earlier, ain’t gonna do any work on this for a few days. The only 4m+ Cross-Country race is La Touche?
May 10, 2010 at 20:19 #295168Think so Gerald though the Velka might be classed as being a XC race.
There’s quite a few 3m 7fish XC races too mind.
May 31, 2010 at 03:52 #297707Just about to start work on this. Won’t do much, as I worked 12 hour shifts over the weekend (boss promised everyone a £100 bonus for doing so), so I’ve got a few other things to cram in today.
Looking at the earlier list, I don’t think it is possible to identify something that will mean such-and-such a horse will become unbeatable beyond 4 miles. Most of the winners have won 2 or less races at the distance, and breeders don’t aim to breed 4m+ chasers, though I suppose a few do try to breed a Grand National winner.
I don’t think we are looking to identify stamina in pedigrees. Instead, I think we are looking for the absence of speed.
Anyway, I’ll get on with the list now, and then do a bit more work on August Bank Holiday.

Seems that the search for a sire or sires to follow regardless is a bit fruitless. As Gingertipster would point out, add a winner, or take one away, and it makes quite a bit of difference. For example, Presenting has had 3 seconds at 15/2, 25/1 and 33/1, and if either of the latter two had won it would make stats look different.
