Poor year, by his standards. Largely reliant on a couple of top-notchers last season.
Is the game up for Stoutey?
October 10, 2011 at 12:48 #373736Many stables have a quiet time. Cecil was quiet for a few years but bounced back with some fine animals in the last two or three years.

October 10, 2011 at 18:34 #373872Robnorth.You say a few years.A "few" means what? Would you believe twenty?Fifteen?Henry had a virus when led to big owners deserting him until he got back on stream last year 2010.Did he have classic winners in the ninties? One ? two? Last I remember Fallon was riding for the yard. The question now is does Stouty have a virus in the yard? He won the Derby last year so why would he not have the young horses coming along? Oxx has be overwhelmed since he won the Derby with STS.He even hired back Johnny from Ballydoyle.Do you have an ear to the ground?Seems awfully quick for Cormack to even hint about the ending of a wonderful career. The Derby and the Arc last year and now this!Although I suppose tyos are the life blood of any flat yard.

Far too early to make such statements. He’s had bad years before, and Cecil’s decline was because of extramural scandals, not because he was thought to be any the worse a trainer.
Carlton House
is still a top-notch 3yo, though not alas at 12F. One rotten apple doesn’t make a barrel. Or is that the wrong metaphor. Perhaps I mean one missing swallow doesn’t make a winter…

A rolling stone keeps the doctor away?
October 10, 2011 at 18:54 #373881Sir Henry did indeed go through a terrible time. The 2005 season only netted 12 winners.
As the saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent.
I am sure SMS will bounce back.October 10, 2011 at 18:56 #373882

October 10, 2011 at 19:11 #373886Game will be up for SMS when he’s dead and not before and he may still train a winner or two after he’s gone

Not every season can be great especially in a market that is more competitive than ever.
SMMS has millions behind him with massive loyalty from his owners. He’s a living legend and a long long way from being finished.
I suppose he’s being more selective these days so when thing go wrong it stands out more but name a yard who doesn’t have the odd bad season.
Funny old game racing one season you’ll win everything going and the next your horses have gone so far up the handicap they win nothing and everyone wonders what went wrong.
No one can find the next Harbinger or Workforce year in year out.
October 10, 2011 at 19:24 #373890Half the trouble is the dogs bark so loudly from that yard. The shrewdies used to come into the bookies with a Derby winner every year, sometimes 3!
SMS is a fine trainer in a lull, but it still hasnt stopped his horses being overbet.
October 10, 2011 at 19:34 #373894It’s a real bummer too as you can’t use the market as a real guide. e.g.I thought Dux Scholar was a steering job the other day and the money said it was but someone forgot to tell the horse
October 10, 2011 at 19:48 #373901Well if they hadn’t decided to run Bubble Chic, whose form was already in the book and he also got a peach of a ride from Peslier, you’d have collected but a 15/8 shot he never was.
But that is racing!
