There is no requirement for me to add to the excellent and poignant coverage by both C4 and RUK following the terrobly tragic demise of the beautiful grey Simonsig.
At the time of writing this thread our one and only daily industry newspaper the Racing Post has failed to make any acknowledgement of the horse, his achievements on the track, and his extremely brave battles with injury.
Shame on you Racing Post. Whilst it is right to focus heavily on the retirement of Sprinter, Simonsig paid the ultimate price and deserves more than the wholly inadequate piece by David Orton in the post-race analysis, or the briefest of references in Barry Geraghty’s tweet . Perhaps they concluded there is no money to be made selling books about Simonsig this Christmas whereas the Spinter Sacre book is already on the bookshelves. Poor taste in the extreme.
November 13, 2016 at 21:40 #1272546I agree Ivanjica. Simonsig deserves much better than to simply be a footnote in the Sprinter Sacre story. I was really surprised that there was not an article specifically about him on the Racing Post website when I looked this evening.
Much like Vautour, Simonsig never really got the chance to fulfil his vast potential. It seems strange saying that when considering how much they both achieved. RIP
November 14, 2016 at 00:18 #1272578Totally agree that Racing Post should hang their heads in shame. This beautiful horse has lost his life today having given all to the sport that fills their pockets and they let it pass almost unacknowledged.
They are so totally out of touch. Thanks to those who paid wonderful tributes to Simonsig
broken hearted by this news. :(Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 14, 2016 at 23:27 #1272707A nice tribute piece has now been put up:

A real shame there was nothing yesterday, but better late than never.
November 15, 2016 at 00:24 #1272711It took me last night and this morning to recover the motivation lost on Sunday by the loss of poor old Simonsig. Getting hit by the news of Sprinter Sacre’s retirement was bad enough but then this…thankfully I missed the race due to a phone call and I’m not watching a replay.
November 17, 2016 at 00:42 #1272958I was out all day Sunday and the racing was set to record, needless to say when I got home and heard the news I deleted the whole lot and I really wanted to see dear Sprinter Sacre on his retirement day but couldn’t bear to see Simonsig alive knowing what would happen.
It’s been a real downer these past few weeks in racing. :(Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 17, 2016 at 06:17 #1272967I was out all day Sunday and the racing was set to record, needless to say when I got home and heard the news I deleted the whole lot and I really wanted to see dear Sprinter Sacre on his retirement day but couldn’t bear to see Simonsig alive knowing what would happen.

Similarly I watched the first half of the programme on a delay oblivious to the later tragedy and was checking the fate of an earlier faller when the Simonsig news hit me like a jackhammer between the eyes.
Took me 3 more days to complete the programme and the Schloer Chase was viewed with the FF button in use until the fall took place. - AuthorPosts
