Certainly the shortest one I’ve seen on a jumps course.
As a regular visitor to Perth I’ve noted that their hurdles run-in varies between 150 yrads and 300 yards. Being a sad anorak I pace the run-in out before racing!
Sedgefield’s steeplechase run-in can’t be much more than half a furlong these days.
How about placing a fence just short of the winning post so that, in a close finish, the better, speedier and more fluent jumper might manage to win the race by virtue of this skill alone, rather than the ability to slog it out over 1f+. Worth a try don’t you think?
Has there ever been a last fence placed that close to the winning line?
