P Mangan, sorry for not knowing the first name but hope this lad is ok! bloody sickening fall at the first on Whatyouthink
November 21, 2010 at 14:01 #329071Looked very bad for Paddy (son of Jimmy Mangan of Montys Pass fame). Fine young rider.
I hope he is ok.
November 21, 2010 at 14:09 #329073Agree with both – hope Paddy’s ok, it didn’t look good
November 21, 2010 at 14:14 #329076Someone said elsewhere they thought they saw him sitting up; hopefully he was "just" knocked out.
November 21, 2010 at 14:58 #329092it looked awful, hope he’s ok, and if not hope for a speedy recovery

Dead.
November 21, 2010 at 16:11 #329107Bad News that. Was a very decent Hurdler for Connections.
Was fancied to go along way over Fences.
Pity
November 21, 2010 at 16:18 #329108Latest is Paddy Mangan has got away with a broken wrist. Very lucky chap!

To me, it’s the jumps equivalent of three year olds being packed off to stud after a season, horses having a decent season over hurdles then going over fences.
I saw Fionnegas come a decent second to Dunguib not long before the Festival, I would’ve thought they’d be better off keeping him over hurdles for another year.
Seeing that today, I’m quite worried about Medermit. It’s been a sickener for me this week what with Ellerslie George, Private Be & now Fionnegas.
Good to hear Paddy Mangan is okay-ish. Always a worry when the jockey stays down.
It’s a dangerous game this jumps business.
November 21, 2010 at 16:32 #329112This season so far has had as many bad injuries as i can remember
Carberry
Choc
Ruby
Williams (career has to be in doubt)
McCoy(Battered yesterday)Its a really really tough business….i wonder why Ruby doesn’t forget riding bad horses. He doesn’t need to and has no commitment to so why take the risk. Maybe i am being a bit narrow minded but a Jockey like him that has such ammuntion…a 0-109 handicap chase is the last place i want to be

Which is why it’s about time a jockey won Sports Personality of the Year. Walsh, McCoy et al probably don’t need to race with nags as you say, but they do. And I’d bet their own personal pride means that each get their best efforts. They take crashing falls, get injured then come back like they’ve never been away.
As a matter of fact, I’d give Sports Personality to a horse. (Mon Mome in 2009 for example) & no, I’m not joking.
November 21, 2010 at 17:02 #329121Glad to hear that Paddy is ok.
Lucky he just got away with a broken wrist there.
November 21, 2010 at 17:07 #329123Terrible news about Fionnegas, he was a very promising animal
November 21, 2010 at 17:45 #329128Just after seeing the fall and that was brutal brutal brutal incident.
I say the Mullins team are cursing their luck. Citizen Vic was a talented Novice and another Talented Novice gone today. Sad Sight.
November 21, 2010 at 19:00 #329134Just watched replays of the day’s racing at Navan.
Have to say I was very disappointed to see the twitching body of Fionnegas lying prone on the ground as the rest of the field bypassed that fence.
Were they hoping the horse was just winded and giving it a chance to get up? Or was it just sheer incompetence in allowing everyone to witness that ?
November 21, 2010 at 19:31 #329135Think questions need to be asked about this incident. I am forever defending my sport of choice with friends and aquaintances and I can’t defend this.
