With Sire De Grugy out, this is a wide open affair.

Uxizandre seems likely to take this route instead of the Paddy Power, so we can expect a genuine pace from the off. Simply Ned is the most ridiculously rated horse in training on the flimsy basis of chasing home Balder Succes in a weak backend event and being the sharpest horse in a handicap at the start of this season.

I think the Game Spirit 1-2 Module and Dodging Bullets could come to the fore. Module shapes like it’s all happening too quickly for him over two miles nowadays (I was gutted to see him not entered for the King George), so I’ll probably side with Dodging Bullets. He’s got a great record when fresh and the right running style to sit within striking distance and hunt down the leaders after the home turn.

    Uxizandre

did it well. He might be an interesting contender in the next RyanAir Chase for instance.

With a wide open 2m division pending Sprinter Sacre’s return, I’d be tempted to go the QM route for the time being.

Indeed, I’d lean to the Queen Mother with

    Uxizandre

until there’s a reason not to.

All his previous form hints that he’s a little short on ability to win one of the big events, but he compensates for his shortcomings with his excellent jumping and sheer enthusiasm. Another plus is that Uxizandre is the kind of horse that AP McCoy rides best around Cheltenham – you could just imagine him setting the pace, kicking him into every fence and going ‘Edredon Bleu’ on them.

Of the others, I was underwhelmed by

    Dodging Bullets

, who might be in for a tough season after this. It’s a big oversight for

    Module

to not be entered in the King George, who looks like he needs the extra distance now.
