On a slightly different note, ever wondered why there’s just the right amount of stuff going on in the world every day to fill a daily news broadcast?
My father once told me there was once a time when BBC Radio had a different policy: “Good evening. This is the News. There is no news tonight. There now follows a weather forecast followed by an unscheduled programme, ‘Hancock’s Half Hour.’ Good evening.”
If they didn’t think there was anything new happening, there was, by definition, no news.
Did they have it right back in the day?

Here in the Westcountry, the local news rarely goes beyond 10 minutes of the allotted half hour with the serious stuff before they have to fill time with more light-hearted stories. It reminds me how good it is to live somewhere where they can’t actually fill a half hour broadcast. No news is good news!
By contrast, 24 hour news channels are an awful invention. Who needs that much news at literally any time of day? Too much news isn’t healthy, and most of it is designed to wind people up rather than inform.
