I guess you have made up your mind Eddie but you DID ask the question. Apologies for the minor turf trivia.
I guess either choice would have made some sort of logical sense and plenty of Oaks winners go to Ireland. JG had reasoned just as logically as to why she was heading for Ireland which is why it was such a shock when they changed their minds.
There was plenty of talk before the race. Most (inc me) called it a "brave" or "bold" decision. Sheikh H certainly had plenty to lose especially after Tarfasha got beat – he could have looked a bit of a numpty!
In the end they had a decision to make and took the bolder one.

August 2, 2014 at 20:52 #487385It must have been an easier decision to go for the King George, when knowing you still have the fairly short priced 7/4 favourite for the Irish Oaks. Why run both? Why not go for two seperate races? Had Taghrooda won the Irish Oaks she’d have gained little in prestige (already won one Oaks)… And had Tarfasha finished second to her, it would’ve prevented Sheikh H having two Oaks winners; it was probably the Irish filly’s last chance to win a Classic. Suspect had Tarfasha not been around – Taghrooda would’ve raced in Ireland.
