Is anybody missing it?
VirginMedia customers with the XL pack got it for free – now we may have to pay?
June 27, 2009 at 00:07 #236524At £20 they will sadly definitely be losing me, even though I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford it.
When you work 5 or 6 days a week during pretty much office hours, and have a family to entertain on day 7, it simply represents no value at all.
June 28, 2009 at 14:48 #236757just like the racing post, racing uk think because we like a bet we are free with our money and charge over the odds for their product.
i wont be re subsribing for £20 a month!June 28, 2009 at 15:43 #236766I will continue with my subscription for Racing UK. I sympathise with them they are on their own now and have to survive. On the face of it £20 is steep and if it were to go higher than that I’d have to re-consider my position because there comes a point where you have to say no more – something I did with football three or four years ago. I think RUK deserve a bit of support right now and I think the price is just about within the tolerance limit though I would like to see more for my money than just live action and replays. Lately there has been a definite improvment in RUK’s output with programmes like Mark Your Card and hopefully we’ll see further additions which will justify the subscription.
The Racing Post website is another thing altogether I don’t see why I should pay to read RPR’s and spotlight etc when I have no interest in what "experts" are tipping in a race. All I want from the Racing Post site is cards, basic form, bookmakers odds, own notes and results. The rest I can easily do without. Lets see how much they intend to charge.

Why? I didn’t realise they were a Charity.
June 28, 2009 at 22:46 #236868Just to add to the price comparisons – before the original Racing Channel, I was once of a small number of subscribers to a service called SIS Review.
That provided a single nightly rerun of all the racing for that day at a cost of £900 per annum. Since it gave me the option to keep a video library, I thought the edge it provided at the time was well worth the money.I remember it well, AP. The "Daily Racing Review", to give it its full title, went out at 10pm each evening throughout 1995 and the early part of 1996. It involved having a larger than normal satellite dish fitted, as I recall. I used to go through "Likely Lads" convolutions to avoid finding out the results during the day so that I could watch "as live" at night. It all went pear-shaped just after the start of the Flat in 1996 when in their wisdom they decided to move it from 10pm on the same day to 9am the following day. The price was, as you say, £75 per month but they had just introduced a concession whereby it reduced to £60 per month if you paid in advance.
That reminds me that Racing UK used to give a similar concession. If you paid annually it cost £200 (equivalent to £16.67 per calendar month) instead of £240. I would hope they’ll do the same again.

I am also cancelling my DD.
The old question of value rears its head again.
On one hand, £20 for a service that most on here adore is very reasonable.
On the otherhand a 50% increase to keep a channel that the majority had along with 6 others (and personally, the football was particularly important being an Oxford fan) is simply silly. It would be like Sky saying, I am cutting Sky one/ the movies/ the news Channels – and we will charge you £50 just for the sports channels.
I am with the guy who mentioned that he works all day in the week and will stick it on for a while at the weekend for decent racing. Now, I will just make my way to the bookies to watch the ‘key’ races that are not covered on terriestial as its only a two minute walk. There is no way I can justify £20 just for racing when I am already paying almost £50 for sky as it is.
I fear a lot will have my view…..
