In the book Mordin on time he sets out a seconds per mile for each class.

    CLASS A 3.6 SPM
    CLASS B 4.8 SPM
    CLASS C 5.5 SPM
    CLASS D 6.3 SPM
    CLASS E 6.6 SPM
    CLASS F 6.9 SPM
    CLASS G 7.3 SPM
    CLASS H 7.6 SPM

Can someone tell me the seconds per mile for class now?
    Thanks

Err, 3.6 secs per mile – are we talking racehorses or Concorde?

Without the context, the numbers you quote are meaningless. And if you want an update on figures from Mordin, go to his website and click the link for standard times, which will provide you with his email address.

I did wonder myself. I thought they must have put rockets up their arses in the good old days

I assume the OP means the class allowance for working out going allowances……..

All those figures still seem pretty big though……

Yep its the class allowance used to calculate going allowances. Mordin used 5 lengths per second in that book, so for example he used a 20 length difference per mile between Class A and H.

He also corrected for 2yo/3yo depending on the time of year and used a fillies allowance.

Back in the day when I had time to do my own speed ratings I checked those allowances by comparing different class races, run over the same distances at the same meetings and found they largely stack up.
