I’ve seen reference to Secretariat on one or two threads recently and is if by magic a movie appears…
Already out in the States and due for a December release over here apparently it’s a Disney film so probably similar in style to Sea Biscuit.
Reviews seem pretty positive, and for those of us too young to have only heard the name, it may be an interesting watch even if only for a bit of background info on th great horse.

Did wonder how they could make a film about Secretariat, having none of the emotional appeal of the movies about Seabiscuit and Phar Lap; ‘horse runs very fast and then has fertility problems’, not exactly the stuff that great movies are made of. However, it certainly looks worth seeing and, for once, I know that I won’t be crying my eyes out at the end [although I probably will because it’s got horses in]. And on the subject of horsey films, the Spielberg film of War Horse is well into production and should be out next December. Now that will make me cry.

Like Sea Buscuit it didn’t break any records in it’s first weekend at the box office. Howver whe word got around about how good Toby McQuire was and how good te movie was it took off like a rocket doing something like $111M.
That’s not going to happen with this one because Spiderman isn’t in it.
However I read a few reports all good and of what I have seen the racing looks some of the best I’ve seen on the big screen.
Champions I loved but watching Corbierre running round in the wrong year was sorta yuk!
I doubt if Secretariat will ever be released here.
To make things worse the weather here is changing and we should have a TORRENT soon

BTW Moe they say Secretariat would bring a tear to a glass eye so I’d stock up with tissues if I were you.
October 18, 2010 at 17:05 #323122Interesting stuff, I remember reading one of Beyers earlier books , in another lifetime when horse racing was appealing from a scientific view (yeah I know its balloney ) he described seeing Secretariat in his first ever race , having practically fallen over leaving the gate , he exploded and got himself into contention , only to run into more trouble , whereupon he exploded again …he had a breath taking turn of foot …..sometimes the sport we were once hooked on , has its terrific highs , here’s hoping the film does the horse justice, as he was the very best once upon a time

December 3rd. Oh yes indeed.
October 19, 2010 at 06:17 #323205Saw the movie last week. Good if you want a Disney movie. Not so good if you want a bread and butter horse race movie.Perhaps more true from the human side than we knew at the time.Value for money but of little interest to a racing fan.Women cried at the end so that tells you something.I didn’t.
