April 6, 2007 at 14:11 #50634on a related problem, does anyone know how to copy a sentence which has a comma in it and paste it into a single cell (on excel), without all the words after the comma being automatically pasted in the next cell along?
Sorry if that dosen’t make sense!
April 6, 2007 at 20:35 #50635Edit > Paste Special >Text
April 6, 2007 at 23:00 #50636Double click on the cell so you’re ‘inside’ it when you do the paste.
April 6, 2007 at 23:38 #50637It still won’t allow me to paste anything with a comma in it without it automatically shifting all text after the comma to the next cell.
Also, the ‘paste special’ option is not highlighted to use, just ‘paste’
April 7, 2007 at 10:22 #50638Don’t use a right click but select Paste special from the Edit menu and you will be offered an option to select text.
April 7, 2007 at 12:52 #50639thanks for your help but it still won’t let me ‘paste special’. Everything else is highlighted on the drop down menu except that, even after i’ve copied some text to the clipboard. I hate computers!
April 7, 2007 at 13:13 #50640This is something to do with your default settings on your ‘import data’ function. If you go to tools .. options (in excel) and then look through that, there should be something in there. Failing that go to on-line help.
Excel is reading comma as a break point by default. I had the same problem with weight being imported as a date.
