I think you’ll find I put up Gone To Lunch first fellas! Him and PDS are my two at the moment, probably won’t do any more. Killyglen was in the market when I looked last night and when it was first published around 2 weeks ago. This race would’ve been perfect again for Hello Bud to follow up, shame he went for the GN instead as the track/ground would’ve been perfect for him.
April 12, 2010 at 15:45 #289882Here is one to throw in the mix!!!
If he decides to send it over keep an eye out for Lochan Lacha of Tony Martin’s.He has been known to send a horse or two over and picked off some good handicaps!! I have backed it at 55 and 50 on Betfair so hope it turns up at least!!I would also give chances to Merigo and Poker Di Sivola too!
April 12, 2010 at 16:26 #289894apologies for believing the Racing Post (should know better) and quoting Halcon as top-weight.
April 12, 2010 at 16:58 #289902Two horses I like, at least at first consideration.
Chief Dan George has ran decently here before, and he’s in great form.
Gidam Gidam is a pretty tasty price, and we know he can go the trip.
That said, still plenty of time!

So don't run, just like the others always do
April 12, 2010 at 17:16 #289907Gidam Gidam will appreciate the ground too, shade high in the weights though?
April 12, 2010 at 18:01 #289919i think im going to go for gone for lunch, mind you that may be a jinx, every horse i choose for this race, always comes 2nd

Maybe we can get the forcast up then
John Mackie would love to win this race you can bet on that. He knows more than most about what it takes to win a National from his days with Rhona Oliver plus he was a frequent visitor at Harry Bell’s back in the good old days. During a 6 year period the 2 yards won the race 4 times between them with Sebastian V, Astral Charmer Fighting Fit and Cockle Strand. A few years earlier the border yards won it 3 times on the trot with Young Ash leaf, Quick Reply and The Spaniard.
John has given Gidam Gidam every chance to get ready for this. He pulled him out of the Midlands Grand National at the 11th hour because he simply wasn’t happy enough with him and felt there was no sense in rushing the horse who has agood future in these long distance chases. He’s only 8 and has now come of age, he will only run if he’s spot on, so if he turns up at 33/1 he’s worth at least a few quid EW.
Very difficult race this year but obviously Ferdy’s has a great chance but it will be interesting to see what truns up and what doesn’t.

April 12, 2010 at 21:10 #289961I like Chief Dan George, but find the price of Meanus Dandy most suspicious; he so lightly-raced and although I skim lot of what I should take in, his profile looke very undistinguished. Must have another look.
April 12, 2010 at 21:29 #289965Gordon, don’t give up hope. He came 2nd in this off top-weight, almost won a Welsh National off top-weight. Don’t fret! He may be top-weight but the others are carrying a hell of a lot more weight than they would’ve done 2 seasons ago.
The horse is completely fresh, King’s yard’s back in a bit of form and the horse is now 20s with Coral’s. Silly, silly price. Softer ground would be better though.
April 12, 2010 at 22:48 #289983I like the look of THEATRICAL MOMENT and AURORAS ENCORE.
April 12, 2010 at 22:57 #289985I’ve been looking at Auroras Encore; 33/1 with Corals at the moment. Also Scots Dragoon [always keep an eye on Nicky Hendersons raids on the north]and Gidam Gidam if he runs. Decided that Faasel won’t stay.
April 13, 2010 at 07:00 #290009There looks a cracking ew bet in this race to me. Not been mentioned so far so once it’s a confirmed runner I’ll get my money on and then tell you. There are 39 other runners but it stands out to me.
April 13, 2010 at 09:35 #290025Trends from the last 12 years (adapted from BBC forum):
Oppose all that ran in the GN.
7/12 were 8yo (very few younger but there have been a couple).
7/10 finished in top 3 LTO.
Rated 130-149 but this pretty much covers the field this year less the top weight and bottom few.
9/10 fallen less than twice.
1st/2nd season chasers do remarkably well.
Average winning SP from last 10 years is 20/1.
Form over extreme distances is vital.
Murphy/Nicholls/Hobbs to target.Gidam Gidam, Out The Black and Ballyfoy meet a lot of this criteria, and all are big prices.
April 13, 2010 at 12:19 #290051What about Chiaro? Won over 3m7f, 4th last year. Ran badly last time? I always forget to look at horses that placed in previous years. Trainer in good form. 25/1.
April 13, 2010 at 12:24 #290052Started going a bit silly with this race.
There is some cracking value to be had,
Already on Poker De Sivola at 17.5 (shame Any Currency is not going)
Gone To Lunch at 19
Lothian Falcon at 32
Merigo at 40
Gidam Gidam at 44
Hold The Pin at 55
Cleni Boy at 130
Ballfoy at 270
There are major stamina doubts about a lot at the head of the market, with the exception of Poker and GTL. The last three winners of the race had already proved themselves over marathon distances and had previously won over 3m 7f and further.
Cleni Boy does look like a stayer so I hope he gets in and Ballyfoy is by a sire that has a decent record over four miles.
April 13, 2010 at 19:25 #290124I like the profile of Eric’s Charm (bar his last-time-out fall) and the fact that he’s a half-brother to Monkerhostin and another crack has a relatively low weight.
I think he fell at the first in the GN, so it shouldn’t have taken too much out of himm and his trainer says he’s fine. Not a bother on him!
