Good job the tip was a freebie.
April 14, 2008 at 14:06 #157754Opera Mundi with the ground riding testing. Best handicapped horse by a good way based on his reappearance form and clearly needs the mud. Unsurprisingly all the fancy doubke figures have dried up today with bookmakers realising he’s one of few off his correct mark and could be disputing favouritism on the day once Ruby is booked.
April 14, 2008 at 14:12 #157755Funnily enough DJ, I backed Opera Mundi earlier (after my Badgerlaw wager bombed with the decs coming out).
Wee bit worried about him getting home though – looked like he was comong to the end of his tether stamina-wise when he won over 3m at Haydock.
April 14, 2008 at 14:14 #157757That explains the gamble!
April 14, 2008 at 14:16 #157758Yup – my £1 each-way has created panic amongst the layers.
April 14, 2008 at 14:35 #157759still they tipped Miko de Beauchene 7/1 good price. Shame Himalayan Trail looked good
April 14, 2008 at 15:57 #157767The complexion of this race has changed with the likely declaration of Halcon Generaldais, who was initially supposed to run at Sandown and the prospect of soft ground, unusually for the time of year. Halcon himself must go well even under top weight but my ante post bet on Noir et Vert looks a little shaky given that he prefers good ground and will now be out of the handicap.

Loves the Mud.
April 14, 2008 at 18:30 #157779Hello,
The following are my two against the field =
NEWBAY PROP, Tony Martin trained.
Ran quite well in the Irish GN. Has won over 3m5f at Fairyhouse, Soft.
Plus won 3m race on good to yielding in December’07, beating Baily Breeze who gave a very good account in the English GN. 20/1 a good price.KILBEGGAN BLADE, was going very well in Cheltenham Cross Country until a bad error, on the Bank I think. Will love going and trainer (George) going well. About 25/1.
regards,
doyley
April 14, 2008 at 19:11 #157782With Carvs on this one. I tipped up Noir Et Vert on another thread, but the ground and 13lb deficit look sufficient for me to now swerve him. With the current situation at the weights it’s hard to see past the top two on the card IMO.
April 15, 2008 at 09:49 #157855Having put forward Newbay Prop as one of my horses to follow on the radio last October and praised him to the skies for his Leopardstown victory over Christmas, I’m loathe to desert him entirely now, and will certainly have a few bob on each-way.
My one concern with him now, as then (and probably always), is that he has all the jumping prowess of a bag of cement; and although the galloping course and slow enough ground should give him time between fences to sort himself out if an error occurs, that was probably also the case at Newcastle and he could finish no better than fourth or fifth.
Kilbeggan Blade is not the surest thing on four legs either, sometimes, but I know the Georges regarded the cross-country race as a win gone begging as the gelding was loving every minute of it before his mistake. Assuming he remains in the same heart, and doesn’t find Ayr a bit boring after last time, he makes an awful lot of appeal to me.

April 15, 2008 at 10:17 #157862According to Tony Martin Newbay is unlikely to run 9lb out of the handicap and he will keep him for the 3m6f at Punchestown. Patsy Hall is likely to run
