Well done guys – great stuff
Good luck next week too – I presume the Hennessy will be the bonus race
November 24, 2008 at 14:07 #191678Out of interest, did anyone that played as part of a syndicate pay the full price of £2 per ticket?
The Scoop6 pays 20% of your stake to the ‘agent’ that takes the bet, so a £1000 perm placed in, for example, Corals, earns the bookie £200. That’s how some of the online sites are able to offer a 10% payback, as it still leaves them with a healthy margin.
So if I was placing a Harry Findlay sized bet, I’d be in negotiation with all the available agents to get the best possible discount.
It’s an interesting side effect of a big Scoop6 pool that the biggest winners are always the bookies that take commission – their income from the Scoop6 on Saturday could have been as high as half a million, risk free.
November 24, 2008 at 14:11 #191684Only just got round to reading this – many, many congrats to rory, Shadow Leader, and Mounty.
Jammy ba*stards, every one.
November 24, 2008 at 14:12 #191685Personally I take the 10% rebate as my reward for coming up with the perm- improves my odds considerably! No, I’ve never paid full price but I suspect that to get better than 10% you’d need a stake of findlayesque proportions!
November 24, 2008 at 14:12 #191686Well done Mounty, Rory, SL et al… Nice to see the money going to some of the good guys…
That’s a generous assessment!
The two sentences weren’t connected, Rory. I was, of course, referring to Peter Naughton and his mates as the "good guys" – thought that would have been obvious.
November 24, 2008 at 15:00 #191710Didn’t know that about the 10% rebate – so Betfair are pocketing 10% commission on all Tote Scoop6 bets placed through the site – no fear of them ever offering a rebate anyway!

Horrible, don’t understand why people should tollerate that. WBX
November 24, 2008 at 21:32 #191802Blue Sq Offered a 10% rebate and had their own syndicate, with horses selected by their "experts". The perm covered 4 or 5 horses a race.
Needless to say they were out completely (Place pool as well) by the second leg!!

"Blue Square" and "Experts" are words that belong in different pages, never mind sentences.
November 25, 2008 at 00:47 #191864(((Looks for a We’re Not Worthy emoticon to aim in Rory’s general direction: fails)))
Terrific result, sir, and couldn’t happen to a better bloke. On to the bonus race this week, then?

November 25, 2008 at 00:49 #191867I’d certainly hope so, although I must continue to stress that Mr Mount calls the shots. I, it must be said, am merely a henchman.

Interesting facts emerged today about the Peter Naughton ‘syndicate’ – he doesn’t have one. He was actually in my syndicate for £50 of the £10,000-odd we invested. A friend of mine increased his stake from £100 to £200 in order to accomodate a couple of his associates, one of whom was Peter. I was asked by the Tote and the Racing Post if Peter was involved in my syndicate but said no, as I simply didn’t realise that he was. Hence, the confusion in the press.
November 26, 2008 at 21:32 #192399Fabulous stuff!
November 26, 2008 at 21:45 #192411I hope the BHA are investigating this (ahem) anomaly
Next thing Peter Naughton will be laying The Risky Viking on Betfair to take out 6-figure sums!
November 26, 2008 at 22:21 #192424Expains a lot Mounty, as the number of people claiming to have won was fast approaching those who saw the Beatles live or in an Irish context, whose fathers were in the GPO in 1916!
November 26, 2008 at 23:50 #192448Even more bizarre – I got a phonecall from the Tote’s Scoop6 co-ordinator tonight, answered "hello?" and she said "Peter?". I’ve heard of identity theft but this is taking the biscuit!
November 27, 2008 at 00:04 #192457Hmm, methinks someone has some fast explaining to do to dig his way out of the rather enormous trench he seems to find himself in…..
