November 29, 2008 at 04:06 #193024Fantastic post, Alan. Once again you capture the essence of this magnificent sport. Best of luck tomorrow night – I’ll be cheering the Battler at his spiritual home!
November 29, 2008 at 04:34 #193033Although not renowned as a fan of the Polytrack meetings, I cannot deny that Horses like Salute are what the sport is all about, not Lucksin Downs or the Scoop 6 or Barry’s Bismark.
It is why I go out on cold days in winter and good luck to you boys tomorrow night.
November 29, 2008 at 05:58 #193047Good luck to Salute and your good self. I hope there’s a lot for you to celebrate tomorrow.

Dial the BHA, pay the money, avoid the angry man in the anorak for the next 20 years…. best of luck AP from a fellow straight (ish) owner!
November 29, 2008 at 14:29 #193086Clearly Salute appeals to people of all political persuasions – two tips for him in the national papers come from the Daily Mail and the Guardian!
Thanks for all the messages – any weather reports from the Black (or Grey) Country would be welcome.
November 29, 2008 at 15:24 #193107Happy 50th to Salute, good luck with him tonight.

You can add Tom Pepper in the Sun to that list!
Good luck with the horse tonight Alan – this time last week, I was over in Dortmund where our syndicate had 2 runners on the all weather, and they were 3rd and last – let’s hope Salute can do better than that!!

November 29, 2008 at 23:39 #193214I’m on ( yet again)!
The old campaigner seems to have a great chance, even before I read your post, Alan.
I think the jockey change will be far from negative."Cold and foggy" is my opinion of the weather, btw.

November 30, 2008 at 00:24 #193229Looks like the fog’s really closing in at Dunstall – Salute’s race could be the last one of the evening. Here goes!

November 30, 2008 at 00:41 #193234Just talked to the trainer – we reckon he’s run his usual solid race, but the winner seems to be improving on the AW. His trainer must be surprised as he was willing to let him go for six grand in a selling hurdle two runs back and nobody wanted him then!
Hayley enjoyed the ride, described Salute as a real trier and reckoned he would have benefitted from getting a lead for a bit longer, but she’d been told by us not to let it develop into a 3F sprint.
That’s 11 consecutive races at Wolverhampton that he’s made the first four and we’ll probably try for number 12 three weeks tonight in a handicap over the same trip.
Thanks for all the support, Alan
November 30, 2008 at 03:04 #193276Well done to Salute – didn’t quite celebrate the 50 with a win but ran another solid enough race.
