Is it me or do Uttoxeter not seem to race over 3m or 3m2f anymore.
I like the place but with the Old Singer and Frielander which was 4m2f then 3m4f now 2m6f and the Mount Argus formerley 4m2f now 3m they seem to be shortening all the races.
I do hope they have more long distance chases its ideal for them

Chases do seem rather sparse:
Since 1/1/07 there’s been 13 at 3m, 4 at 3m2f and 3 at 4m+
3 of which have taken place in 2008 (one at each of the above trips)
If memory serves there’s been quite a few abandonments at the course.
April 16, 2008 at 22:45 #158211Couldn’t agree with you more Jeremy. I would put Perth up there with the best courses in the UK. The facilities may be very average but you will never come across a more friendly bunch of racing people.
Scone is just a lovely part of the world where It’s even traditional for jockeys slow down on the far side to get a good look at the salmon leaping in the river

The course is famed for their greasy mince pies which go down real well with a few beers and the bar staff were always great when I attended.
The seriously are a great bunch of real racing people who love their racing and as you say, the hospitality is 1st class.
I’ve never read so much crap in all my effing life….. and I’m seriously passionate about what I’m typing here.
Unless you have been to all 59 (or whatever it is) courses in the UK at least 10 times then how can you come out with a statement that implies Perth has the most friendliest racegoers in the UK (this also goes out to Jeremy for all those who think I am just having a go at Fist).
I’ve been to Perth twice. The first time my friend was glassed in the face for having a disagreement with a drunk punter – he is still disfigured by the way. The second time I went with my girlfriend, who copped 20 minutes of perverted abuse by two drunks…. yet when I angrily told them to calm down and watch what they were saying, it was me who was removed from the racecourse.
I will never visit Perth again. The bloke who glassed my friend is now serving a 12 month suspended sentence for his actions, yet I dare say is allowed back to Perth racecourse anytime he likes, yet I was told on my last visit never to return.
It’s a funny old world.
What you (intelligent) guys are really trying to say is that you have had a good experience at Perth. Yet you should know that it’s impossible to judge a racecourse as being the most friendly – this is impossible to judge.
I went to a football ground the other day that had 200 people present. Everyone got on well, there wasn’t one single arrest, and the atmosphere was great. Does this mean that this football ground is more or less safe, friendly or atmospheric than say Old Trafford?
I had a great day, the football was great, but I’d never come out with something stupid like, "it’s the friendliest football ground in the UK" simply because of my great experience.
So please, don’t say Perth is the friendliest course in the UK simply because a few of you had a good experience there. I had a terrible experience there (twice) – but let’s all agree that the title of ‘friendliest racecourse in the UK’ is a title that is impossible to measure.

April 17, 2008 at 08:54 #158261I can confirm that the 3M chase on Thursday 24th at Perth has no upper rating limit and it’s worth £35,000 this year. Current going is good to soft, so no problem on that score either.
Are you going this year?
AP
Cheers for that, AP. Sadly I won’t be there this time, the weekdays I can realistically get off for the remainder of this spring already being committed to hunter chase-saturated racedays at, among others, Cheltenham and Stratford. We’ll see what the lay of the land is later in the summer, though, as I’ve not been since we met there in April 2005 and that’s plenty long enough without, I reckon.
Mike – one can only speak as one finds, and I expressly stated that Perth is "a terrific, friendly course" based on those findings – no more or less than that. I might equally point out that the only two courses I have ever been pickpocketed or roughed up at are Aintree (twice) and Warwick, though I would stop short of suggesting either are the most dangerous tracks in the country for racegoers.
(NB none of this should be taken as an attempt to dissassociate myself from Mr Fist’s comments, which, broadly speaking, I endorse on this occasion).

I think there is still a decent-ish (maybe 0-135) or similar 3m2f chase to come on one of its weekend meetings next month – I definitely remember punditing on it last year, and I think it was the race that Elvis Returns won on ground rather slower than the advertised. I’d like to think that this isn’t the only such race between now and the Summer National there, but I wouldn’t like to bet against it.
