    hello,

I knew the race was lost when you put a "good" jockey on a excelentt horse.
What became apparent to the trainer and owners, they had made a mistake, by the second fence..

I know I am going to a bit of back lash from this but the facts are before you, but like everything in life, you take your chances,

As been discussed on this forum, the ability of various "horsemen" is important, I am afraid Sam is not up to it!! The jockey is only 10% towards a victory, and one does is take full advantage of that percentage,
I am afraid whet you seen before is reality…

    regards,

The horse has a heart problem but it’s the jockey’s fault that he is not back to his brilliant best even though the self-same jockey was on board when the horse WAS at his very best

    Hello, David,
probably you are right, about a horse’s illness, but wat I actually seen, was a bad jockey?

Another Thomas bashing thread. Don’t tell me you went for the Micks54321 Max BET on Denman Doyley?

Can you enlighten us exactly on what Thomas has done wrong today?

Cant blame the jockey for this im afraid. Yes Ruby is better than Sam but Denman just isnt the same as he used to be and i dont think having ruby onboard today would of made a slight bit of difference.

Thomas actually had a hard time on Denman today the horse was never really travelling. To Sam’s credit he never panicked just let the horse find his rhythm.

The fall – Denman was under pressure and tired and he just didn’t get high enough and hit the top of the fence. I don’t really see how Sam could’ve done anything to affect Denman’s jump. He could’ve rode him into the fence and asked Denman for a big one but the fact that the horse didn’t get high enough anyway would suggest that he wasn’t capable of a big one.

    Hello,

DJ I have no idea what that code you have written but I will do it if you like?? :D
Firstly, Denman is a massive horse, Aintree invites the rail, it is flat, and actually , would be perfect for him, but what does sam do race down the middle, yep, classsic..

Let’s a grip here, I am not a Sam basher, but if someone f** ks up, they have to be brought to account,,

    Remember, still love all…

Personally, I’d have had Walsh ride Denman for me he McCoy and Murphy are that bit better than the rest, surely it makes sense to have the best jockey available to ride your horse ?

I don’t really agree with the Thomas knows the horse argument because at the end of the day if it’s a case of knowing the horse then why not have the lads and lasses who ride the horses out almost everyday ride in the races ?

However it’s all irrelevant now, Denman fell doesn’t matter who was riding him because it can’t be changed now, hopefully he’s ok and we’ll see him race again.

There are people who criticised the ride Ruby gave Denman at Kempton. Jockeys just can’t win sometimes.

From what I could see Sam gave him the best ride he could. I don’t see how anyone else could have made a difference.

    Here we go again!

It could clearly be seen Denman was not in a good mood at the start, being pushed by Thomas just to walk around with the others. Yes he is normally a front runner / races prominently. But there was not one, two or three prominent runners but seven in the race. Madison Du Berlais, Our Vic, Snoopy Loopy, The Listener, Mister McGoldrick, and Air Force One as well as Denman, like to be up there. The first three mentioned possibly need to be in front, or at least have a view of the front. Had Sam gone up to the front early it would have been an even stronger pace, too strong, pushing Scu to go faster. Had that been the case, some would have asked why did Sam chase a suicidal pace? That is if Denman was in the mood to do so, which I believe he was not. Connections may well have made a decision before the race not to be up there early, with so many prominent runners.

Sam has done nothing wrong on Denman.
Denman sulked at Aintree as he did when Ruby was on board at Kempton.

Sams ride makes a mistake and falls and he gets a malling from the jockeys in the stands, or should that be in the high chair? Ruby’s ride Star De Mohaison falls and he’s a wonderful jockey.
As has been said blame the horse not the jockey.

I do find a thread like this a bit distasteful straight after the race when the horse was possibly badly injured, thankfully it now looks like the horse is okay. I did feel sorry for Thomas who must have been absolutely gutted but still somehow found time to sign a couple of autographs on his way back to the weighing room.
Having said that it would surprise me if Walsh was sat in the stands when Denman runs again.

Well said Ginge. Any other course and Denman at cruising speed would have been in 2nd or 3rd going onto the 2nd circuit without battig an eyelid. That MDB’s front running tactics on that track is faster than Denman’s cruising speed so Sam had to do a bit of work to catch up the ground he lost. Quite simply Denman would have wanted to be closer but Sam rode him in the same way as when he rode him in the Gold Cup. I would like a bet that is exactly what his instructions were.

As far as Sam being some sort of below par jockey is concerned I have never read so much garbage in my life. He’s and excellent pilot and any twat who thinks ex jockey and top NH trainer Paul Nichols doesn’t know the difference between a good and bad jockey is a complete bafoon.

He did nothing wrong today. Denman is a big brute of a horse and travelling at that speed on that track is probably as fast as he’s ever gone in his life. Poor old ED was flat out and couldn’t get near them. The big fella just failed to pick up propery and paid the price. Gravity is a b*****D when that happens.

Comparing him to Ruby is out of order. Ruby is the most technically correct jockey around and if you compare any jockey to him, bar 1, and you will make him look that bit inferior.

Sam and Denman are a team, Kauto Star and Ruby so unless that changes talk of what Ruby would or would not have done is irrelevant.

On his way back in from the Denman ride Sam could clearly be seen signing his name for two autograph hunters, under the circumstances that showed a whole lotta class, most other jocks in the same boat would have walked on and ignored them and some of them would have told the autograph hunters to F*** Off.
