Sad news. What a stunning-looking horse he was. R.I.P.

“Desperately sad and shocked that today we lost our lovely, amazing Arnie. Out hacking round his favourite fields at home a sudden and tragic heart attack took him. He was the kindest, most affectionate horse, beautiful inside and out. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and followed him. There are no words to articulate the hole this very special horse leaves behind. 💔”

That’s so sad, but at least he was still enjoying his life, being cared for and loved. He was a smashing horse though and it’s a real shame he didn’t get to live longer. RIP x

I’m sure he gave his owners a lot of great days out and sounds like he was much loved and cared for in his retirement. He was a very good looking chap! I was much relieved when he recovered OK after being brought down in his last National.

Very sad to hear of Saint Are’s passing, he was a great favourite of mine. He had a long and impressive career and was a great Aintree specialist. He won the 3-mile novices’ hurdle at the National meeting at 33-1 back in 2011, which was very much a sign of things to come. Later he placed in the National twice and the Becher chase once.

As others have said, he was a really beautiful horse, and it is good to hear he had been doing well post-retirement. RIP Saint Are

Very sorry to learn this. These days not many horses run in five Aintree Nationals.) In fact, apart from Saint Are, only Amberleigh House, Hedgehunter and Vieux Lion Rouge have done so this century. He will be much missed by his connections, but lived a full and active life, and will be fondly remembered by thise of us who appreciate the longevity of the careers of horses like Saint Are.

Saint Are was a magnificent sight; the silks a perfect contrast to his obsidian colour
