He won’t know what to do to fill his days.
Anyone suggest a hobby?

May 13, 2008 at 13:24 #163212Quality assurance?
Or perhaps a coaching and mentoring role for the young horny whipper snappers…
May 14, 2008 at 07:26 #163331I’d agree that Saddlers Wells is mostly hype. His good are very good, but his bad are dreadful. At least if you get a useless Danehill descendant, it is sound enough, can breathe enough, and doesn’t bleed enough to find a race somewhere.
I am not sure what you mean "mostly hype". Looking down through the winners of Derbys, Oaks, Ledgers, King Georges and Arcs, Sadlers Wells progeny and their subsequent progeny have a magnificent record in these races. Surely not a hype horse in the breeding world.

What a load of xxxx
Nomination for daftest post of the year so far.
May 14, 2008 at 08:09 #163339He should have had those winners though – he had thousands of the best mares in the world to cover.
However, he also sired more than his fair share of wonky yaks.May 14, 2008 at 08:19 #163342Well given that Sadler’s Wells sired 69 of the 0.1% of the horse population that ever win a Group 1 race, and the fact that he was European Champion of his trade 14 times (13 times in a row) I’m happy to credit him with being more than ¨mostly hype¨
As for the wonky yaks, every sire has a fair share of those.
May 14, 2008 at 08:43 #163348It would also be worth noting that Sadlers Wells has had more of an impact in the classic mile division than Danehill.

May 14, 2008 at 08:52 #163350The Cheekster, you seem to be damning this champion sire with faint praise.
It would seem you have had at least one unhappy experience with his offspring.
But it is difficult to look at his record and think "hype".

May 14, 2008 at 09:30 #163356Saddlers Wells was helped by the Coolmoore policy of more coverings than anyone else.
However, there can be no doubt he was an outstanding sire.
If an owner had a Darshaan mare, just put her to Saddlers Wells and you’ve got a Group 1 winner. Well, may be not quite as easy as that.Ginge
