i know it was happening but it was still sad to see at haydock the sight where those famous drop fences once was now all dug up.
i noticed even the water jump has gone so much for them saving it.
it was interesting to note that there only 1 track has been left for jumping so they are definatly going to be using the trolly fences and hurdles like they do at southwell instead of the portible fences (like in the home streight at ascot &kempton).
why are they still being allowed to stage the grade one betfair chase now they are doing this?
you wouldnt get a grade one chase at southwell would you?September 9, 2007 at 19:25 #114196wasn’t Haydock meant to be a good trial for potential Grand National horses? I can’t quite get my head round the fact that this is happening to be honest, all the history that these courses have…very sad

In addition their October meeting is no more which means Betfair Chase day in late November will be the first chance to see the new track in action, which doesn’t strike as exactly smart planning.
Sad to say, but a part of me wouldn’t be too sorry if the day’s a complete balls-up.
On a related point, the Haydock-like Wetherby will have a new ‘A1’ bend and re-aligned home straight this season. Wonder if the famous big open-ditch four-out will be replaced by something less demanding?

It certainly was. The big National trial they had there was the Greenall Whitley Chase. I can remember when I was very young, watching Red Rum who was a regular in that particular race & thrusting packets of Polos into his lads hand for him.The water jump right in front of the stands was spectacular.
September 9, 2007 at 23:05 #114231Haydock has sold its tradition, its already been said add its name to the growing tracks that come under the heading ”dross”

Completely agree.
The powers that be won’t be happy until our wonderful sport is all artificial.
Those responsible for the Haydock disgrace should be ashamed of themselves.
Do they ever listen, do they care? No of course they don’t we all just get railroaded into what they want.
