PICK: OUR CONOR.
December 28, 2013 at 21:22 #25329In the Ryanair hurdle tomorrow at Leopardstown who do you think will win, The champ – Hurricane Fly, the young pretender – Our Conor or could there be a surprise with Jezki winning?
Looks to be a cracking contest.
I fancy Our Conor to de-throne the Fly.
His Triumph hurdle win was just too impressive to forget.
Your thoughts?

December 28, 2013 at 21:27 #463319You are missing another one taking nearly 30% out of the market
December 28, 2013 at 21:30 #463321its going to be a very interesting race i fancy our connor to win from jeski with the fly back in third our connors win at the festival last year was very impressive although he will have to improve to beat horses of this class
December 28, 2013 at 21:44 #463325Even on a maths basis, Our Conor must be a bet. He’s just 5s for the Champion, yet you can have 5/2 for tomorrow where he gets 3lbs from two horses behind him in the CH market.
He could end up the Sprinter Sacre of hurdlers (minus the heart problems) and should be supported until he’s beaten imo
December 28, 2013 at 22:20 #463331I am surprised that this is Our Conor’s first run of the season which suggests to me everything is not fine with the horse, I hope I’m wrong though.
December 28, 2013 at 22:22 #463332Was watching this year’s Cheltenham again over Christmas, and for my money, nothing was more impressive than Our Conor’s win in the Triumph. If Hurricane Fly beats him tomorrow giving him 3 lbs, he’s some animal.
Agree with Joe, OC could be very, very special.
December 28, 2013 at 22:40 #463333Fly odds against?
Yes please. Thousand Stars for the usual FC.
December 28, 2013 at 23:24 #463334Being in the MTOY’s camp I would like to see Jezki run a big race here to frank the form. 3/3 at the course and 7 out of 8 over hurdles. Hurricane Fly sets the benchmark and I personally would rather take the 5/4 about the proven horse over the 5/2 about the pretender. Our Conor impressive as he has been has yet to take in opposition of this calibre and it will be interesting to see him in a battle.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 28, 2013 at 23:34 #463336I think until the Fly is beaten you have to stay with him. Cracking race though
December 28, 2013 at 23:47 #463337I know he’s very precocious, but isn’t Our Conor a bit young to win a Champion Hurdle?
December 29, 2013 at 03:57 #463344I’m really looking froward to this, hope they all run their race. If not for his below-form C’ham appearances The Fly would be a stronger favourite. His form is rock-solid and consistent; question is, going on 10, can he retain the speed that made him almost unbeatable?
December 29, 2013 at 10:09 #463352I was first to bring the subject of the Ryanair Hurdle up a couple of weeks ago when I confidently predicted Our Conor to beat Hurricane Fly. His odds were around the 4/1 mark then and Hurricane Fly’s at 4/7 or thereabouts.
Contrary to a previous poster’s comment, Our Conor has already made an appearance this season, albeit in a flat race, finishing fourth.
It’s a fascinating contest in which Jezki cannot be ruled out of the equation either.
Supporters of Our Conor ( me, for example ) have obvious concerns about his new jockey – something which may negate the 3 pounds Dessie Hughes’s charge receives from the Champion Hurdler.
If young Mr. Mullins keeps a calm head and doesn’t panic, and taking it on trust that Our Conor strips a lot fitter today than he was at Naas, then both Hurricane Fly and Jezki will have their work cut out to stop the briliant winner of the Triumph Hurdle.
It is not inconceivable for a 5 year old to win the Champion Hurdle – Katchit was the last horse to do so in 2008. Before him, See You Then ( 1985 ) and the mighty duo, Night Nurse ( 1976 ) and Persian War ( 1968 ) also claimed the big hurdle prize at Cheltenham – as did a few others prior to those great champions achieving the feat.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
December 29, 2013 at 10:54 #463354You have to respect Hurricane Fly and all that he has done in his career, however, I personally would love to see Our Conor win today. He seems a very special horse and the way he powered away in the Triumph was something to behold.
December 29, 2013 at 11:00 #463355Katchit didn’t have The Fly to beat. I do agree its a fascinating contest, but from my point of view:
Our Connor looks exciting but has beaten up juveniles, and beaten them up well – but that’s it currently.
Jezki looked a good novice last season, but was not a clear champion novice. Won a decent race over 2.5m this season impressively, but this is a much higher standard – he has it to prove also.
We have HF, top class record breaking reigning Champion, who has his optimum conditions – course (5 runs, 5 Grade 1’s), distance, ground, small field.
If one of the younger horses improve past him today, then I’ll accept that, but with all the information we have in my possession prior to the race 6/4 looks an unbelievable "How did we let that go off at that" price. I’ll admit I’ve piled in.
Pricewise about sums up what I consider to be odd thinking about this race – he opposes HF as he looked "Sluggish" whilst WINNING the Champion Hurdle. Righto Tom.
December 29, 2013 at 12:59 #463368Our Conor is the finest winner I’ve seen in regards to the Triumph Hurdle. I reckon he’ll show his rivals a clean set of hooves and scorch in by around 5 or 6 lengths.
