I see there is no page for race this thought I’d get it started.
This is how Betfair Sportsbook have priced it up.Un De Sceaux 11/2
Josses Hill 8/1
Vroum Vroum Mag 8/1
Black Hercules 10/1
Douvan 10/1
Valseur Lido 10/1
Outlander 12/1
Road To Riches 12/1
Taquin Du Seuil 12/1
Zabana 14/1
Sub Lieutenant 16/1
Ar Mad 20/1
Bristol De Mai 20/1Obviously if Un De Sceaux takes this up he’ll be difficult to beat but at the prices he doesn’t appeal to me.
Josses Hill has always interested me as a chaser, especially once he got his jumping together for this race. After his win over Camping Ground earlier in the season he looked to have ironed out his jumping I snapped up some 16s about him for this race. Now I feel 8s is perhaps a little on the short side, especially considering his previous trait to clout a fence or 3. I’m hoping that he comes there tanking in the King George only for the petrol tank to empty in the final half mile so is confirmed for this.
I’m hoping VVm reverses the form with Apple’s Jade in Mares Hurdle but if turning up here would be a serious contender.
Black Hercules has never been a favourite of mine, a view which has been enhanced after his lacklustre return in the John Durkan, although if he came back to the form of the JLT again would be a contender.
Douvan should be CC bound.
Valseur Lido. I’m convinced he should go down the Gold Cup route, although probably not quite good enough for that race, I would have thought wouldn’t be quick enough for this. In fact I’d skip Cheltenham altogether with him and wait for either Aintree or Punchestown. A lot will depend on whether Don Cossack bounces back to form.
Outlander beat my old fav Pont Alexandre last year so obviously I rate it but wouldn’t have thought he’d be quite good enough, perhaps could run into a place if jumping holds together.
Road to Riches I believe falls into the same category as Valseur Lido although perhaps his season when 3rd in Gold Cup has indeed taken its toll on him.
Taquin Du Seuil I do not believe is good enough at all despite his great performance to win the BetVictor.
Zabana if turning up here on good ground would be of serious interest although again I almost hope they wait for Aintree for either the Melling or Bowl.
For both Sub Lieutenant and Bristol De Mai I cannot see being good enough.
It is though Ar Mad who at 20s who appeals to me most, purely based on the prices, of course, the CC may look the obvious race for him especially after his antics last season. However, the fact Gary Moore was considering him for the King George speaks to me the idea that this race may well be the chosen race. Either way, 20’s for me is an excellent price especially seeing how well he finished in the Tingle Creek.
December 23, 2016 at 16:49 #1278242As discussed elsewhere if by some miracle he turns up Empire Of Dirt wins this. Unfortunately, those closest to the horse don’t appear to have a clue and would sooner throw away the chance of winning a Grade 1 to run over a distance two miles beyond his best trip.
December 23, 2016 at 19:14 #1278262One of my favourite races at the festival, and one which I made a complete mess of last year.
First bet in this was Valseur Lido at 25’s, a couple of months back.
I like Zabana a lot as well ponti, but I’m hoping he’s Gold Cup bound.
A couple of the WPM horses really appeal to me, but I won’t part with a penny on them at this stage.
I’m with stilvi, and think that this is perfect for Empire of Dirt, but it does look as if he’ll be staying up in trip, and to be honest, although he looks like being aimed at The National, my pocket would still like to see him in The Gold Cup.
Others I’d consider are Smad Place, More of That, Lord Scoundrel, and Champagne West, but I couldn’t be 100% they’d run in this.
At this stage though, the one that appeals most is Village Vic at 33’s. He came up short in this last year, but he doesn’t have to put up a fight with the ill-fated Vautour this time around, and I think he’s improved again this year, so he’d be my main hope at the moment.
December 23, 2016 at 19:23 #1278264A lot depends on how things go the next few days but if Valseur Lido does not win the Lexus then the Ryanair could be a real possibility. Especially if one of the Tizzard horses hose up in the KG.
December 23, 2016 at 19:31 #1278266I forgot all about that 25’s we all took for this botchy, better go and edit my post lol.

Same here, i just spent a couple of hours noting down my AP bets for Cheltenham this afternoon.
Looked on BF and saw he was 33’s now so added another couple of quid on him
December 24, 2016 at 06:19 #1278321I took Ar Mad at 25’s.
December 24, 2016 at 15:16 #1278375Josses Hill fans might want to bet him for this before Monday, although if he somehow wins or goes very close in the KG, they wouldn’t rule out a GC tilt.
December 27, 2016 at 13:07 #1278731Cue Card apparently is an option here according to Tizzard jr.
December 27, 2016 at 13:15 #1278734They’ll be balloting them out. Suspect Gold Cup field will not be much bigger than KG field.
December 27, 2016 at 13:36 #1278740I was disappointed to hear Joe say that with Native River in the Gold Cup they may want to spread them out(the Mullins approach).
If the ground comes up soft Cue Card should be running in the blue riband.
December 27, 2016 at 17:53 #1278809It would be a mistake to run Cue Card in this, I think. His forte these days is stamina and he ought to be in the Gold Cup.
December 28, 2016 at 18:34 #1278992Post Xmas, with everything else avoiding either Douvan or Thistlecrack, this is shaping up to be the race of the Festival –
Assuming it’s not a bog, UDS, Josses Hill and Valseur Lido are surely all heading here?
Giggi will throw more at this to at least attempt to win ‘their’ race.
WPM will surely add ‘spice’ to that (!). So, enter Vroum Vroum (who needs to avoid Apple’s Jade in the Mares, who won’t stay in the WH, and who can’t super-sub in the GC) & Black Hercules. I don’t think this can be Djak as RR then has nothing for a GC run.
The Moore’s may yet have both Ar Mad and SDG in it.
Plus, there’s Village Vic, dear old Smad, whatever PN puts in and ? Zabana.Looking at that line up, I can’t see CC in this.
Can’t wait!December 29, 2016 at 11:48 #1279069I forgot all about that 25’s we all took for this botchy, better go and edit my post lol.
Looks like our bets are back from the dead VTC ?
December 29, 2016 at 12:16 #1279077Yeah Botchy, I think he’s a cert to head for The Ryanair now, and very happy with that news.

Never in doubt

Good news too for me as I’d also backed him at 25s after you had alerted me to it on a separate thread.
Let me down in the Lexus yesterday but travelled like a dream. Only the last furlong he was outstayed
