Voy Por won’t be out of the first three.
Barbers Shop the one to beat – ridden for a place at Kempton (like I said he would) and sure to be prepared to the minute for this.
February 15, 2010 at 00:18 #276754Oh agree with the last bit and then some. Can’t see voy por being a threat but my oh my yet another form line, this time the Aon, that says Barbers is a stone cold certainty in this race
February 15, 2010 at 00:32 #276755I used to be a big fan of HM’s ‘tonsorial emporium’ but the truth is he just doesn’t win very often. I know he is campaigned with the best but would there be many horses who win G1’s at the Festival with such poor win ratios?
Tranquil Sea and Poquelin to fight this one out.February 15, 2010 at 01:09 #276757Understand the point but to simplify, he doesn’t get 3m at proper graded level.
take out his 3m+ form – some of which were corking runs anyway, and his career reads @ 16-22f:
1312U1
21212
chases in bold.
He’s obviously won over 3m+ too but not the strongest of events relative to his Gold Cup, Hennessy and King George runs.
He wins plenty, and only lost the Paddy Power – a key pointer to this race – because he bumped into a Ryanair winner and Gold Cup horse running off 139!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 15, 2010 at 01:24 #276758just a quick look at the win-ratios
prior to winning the ryanair Imperial’s was @ 50% (career) or 6/12
IF
Barbers had gone to the ryanair instead of the gold cup, his ratio would have been 6/14 or
(43%)
one of those defeats obv against Imperial. Instead he’s been asked to win races he can’t win (trip), skewing his percentage now to 6/17 or 35%.
Tranquil’s is 7/17 or 41%
Poquelin’s is 7/19 or 37%
Scary to think what his win ratio would be if he’d been campaigned at 20/21f instead of 3m plus!!

Edward O Grady is quiet about Tranquil Sea….that can only be a positive
February 16, 2010 at 23:13 #277268He has an entry at Naas on Sunday. Surprised me anyway – have a vague memory of him saying after running against Golden Silver that he’d go straight for Cheltenham without another run.
February 16, 2010 at 23:19 #277269Running over a shorter trip again….they must want to try and do the field for speed in the Ryanair. Impressive training by the great man
February 18, 2010 at 20:16 #277677I see Forpaddydeplasterer has made a miraculous recovery, it would not surprise me to see him line up in the Ryanair as Mastermind looks unbeatable in the Champion Chase
February 23, 2010 at 17:56 #278623Tranquil Sea will race on sunday at Naas.As long as the weather stays away.
February 23, 2010 at 20:29 #278683The price on VPU is being trimmed, think it will be 10/1 or less on the day. Still 16/1 with Coral only 14/1 Betfair. On it’s Lexus run Schindlers Hunt looks good ew value @ 12/1.
Barbers Shop flatters to deceive, only worthwhile bet for me would be a back to lay with Betfair, could see him trading at 2/1 with a couple of fences to go.February 28, 2010 at 16:27 #279689Very impressive win by Tranquil Sea there, will take all the beating in the Ryanair.
February 28, 2010 at 16:27 #279690Lovely prep run. Should leave him spot on for the Ryanair.
February 28, 2010 at 17:05 #279695I was quite sweet on Tranquil Sea beforehand…..I’m very sweet on him now.
February 28, 2010 at 18:09 #279716I have said it all year,that
Forpadydeplasterer
should be aimed for the Ryanair rather than the Champion Chase,so i have just snaffled the 110 on the machine! Wishful thinking?
February 28, 2010 at 18:11 #279717Looks a very good horse.
Over 2 miles 5, he will take a lot of beating!
February 28, 2010 at 18:12 #279718Very impressive win by Tranquil Sea there, will take all the beating in the Ryanair.
Snowy Morning is my number 1 National fancy,so to get within 3l of Tranquil Sea over 2m1f would concern me if i was a Tranquil supporter!
