Im thinking VPU for this at 9/2 could well be one of the bets of the festival in hindisght, he is always at his best at cheltenham, looks to love 2m4f and ran with credit in the King George which looked a stamina test that saw most of the opposition beaten some way from. There are others who tick boxes but VPU ticks every box for me and he is the one the others have to beat IMO.
What concerns me most about VPU is his jumping over longer distances this year. Same comments apply to Tidal Bay. Neither has jumped well at all this season and I’m still taking them on with Imperial Commander.
February 7, 2009 at 03:46 #208610Aragorn, with all respect, when has Voy Por ‘not jumped well’? ? ?
He made 1 mistake at Aintree towards the end of a race where he was giving away lots of weight and was his first appearance of the season, but apart from that, he jumped and travelled well.
He jumped well at Kempton too.
I think in the Ryanair, he will take a lot of beating.

Aragorn,
I cant remember "Voy Por" ever falling in his whole career, in my opinion he is an excellent jumper and at 4/1 he is still a serious Ryanair
contender, over 21/2m "Imperial" will struggle to keep tabs on him,and it will be near enough level weights, "Imperial" wont be carrying 10-7 round cheltenham in March!February 7, 2009 at 04:15 #208615Didn’t he unseat Thornton in the Game Spirit that Well Chief pished up in?

Correct "Imperial" he did unseat!! Never fell though!!
February 7, 2009 at 15:47 #208679Noland messed up my TTF also so switching to Imperial Commander . Tidal Bay seems to have lost something also. He`s in my TTF as well. Miracle I am still going really
February 9, 2009 at 21:39 #209254Gwanako a big market mover in this today, interesting to see where he turns up next.
February 9, 2009 at 22:02 #209272I had a bit of 33/1 each-way this morning when I saw the money coming- he was 40-1 last night. I can only assume it’s a tipping line, but if he’s an intended runner it looks a big price. I’ve also backed Or Noir de Somoza at 25-1; it seems that this is his target and with David Pipe coming into form that also looks big for this classy French import.
February 9, 2009 at 22:20 #209284I saw him being picked at earlier today at 33s but wasnt sure if it was just people looking for a Nicholls alternative to Noland, but a lot of money came in for him this afternoon. Could be a tipping line but would look a bit of an illogical choice for them.
I like gwanako as a horse though, had him in my ttf last season but he seemed to fall out of love with the game a bit when hurdling, and refound it at aintree. Hes a small horse who jumps big obstacles for fun and Nicholls has always thought a lot of him, could just be showing the right stuff at the right time and he gets the trip well enough.
At 33s or 20s, hes not that far away ratingswise and open to improvement so I think we should get a good run for our money.
February 10, 2009 at 05:39 #209405I also backed Gwanako on the weekend at 40/1 each way with Stan James. I believe he is due to run at Ascot on Saturday in the Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Steeple Chase over 2m 5f and if he runs well there he could be lower than 10s bearing in mind he’s already as low as 16s with a number of firms.
Apparently Paul Nicholls stated in his stable tour pullout in the Racing Post that at the start of November he had the Ryanair Chase in mind for Gwanako.
With Noland no longer running and Willie Mullins having nothing it looks like Ruby will ride so he’ll be the main Nicholls-Walsh runner that has won 2 out of the 4 Ryanair Chase runnings to date.
Rated 154 now, he has only run in six chases thus far so is open to plenty more improvement and could be rated in the 160s after his run this coming weekend. He would then be in with a great chance of winning the race (first three Ryanair winners were rated between 152-157).
February 14, 2009 at 20:20 #210202Voy Por is a worthy favourite for the Ryanair on that performance today and will take all the beating, a faultless display from a top class horse!
February 14, 2009 at 20:50 #210215Can’t see past Voy Por for the Ryanair unless Exotic Dancer runs which is unlikely.

Absolutely Ian!
February 14, 2009 at 21:36 #210230Im pretty pleased, i love the horse and i love watching him work at home. I have been harking on about him running in the Ryanair for a while, and i think he will take the world of beating.
February 14, 2009 at 21:48 #210233I sometimes wonder what he has to do before people stop knocking him; I think he looks ‘regal’..and his jumping takes my breath away….

I said similar in the thread concerning todays’ race, Moe.

I think he’s been sent back to France Carv.
I’m still investing in Imperial Commander. Some green shoots of recovery from the twisters stable recently and a statement that this race is in the intended target means he remains a decent bet.
Voy Por was much more impressive than I expected today though.
