Somersby into 5/1 second favourite for this. Is he running? Henrietta Knight said after the Victor Chandler chase Somerby will be going for the Champion Chase? But she said he would be aimed at the Gold Cup too, and Ryanair at different stages. Any word?
Kalihari King only trimmed a point for being tipped up by Pricewise.

March 9, 2011 at 12:24 #343878I have backed Somersby for the Queen Mother at double figure prices and have always believed he will beat the previous champions in this years race as he has masses of improvement still to come, however i have also backed Poquelin at even bigger odds for the Ryanair as i am also convinced he has the scope for improving on last years 2nd in this.If there was one horse i didn"t want running against Poquelin in the Ryanair its Somersby. The RP website states the Tote are offering 10/1 about Somersby winning this, they have just given me 5/1 Nrnb.I am not happy.
March 10, 2011 at 13:19 #344025Don’t know if there has been anything in the Racing Post about this. But at the Newbury Cheltenham Preview, there was speculation AP McCoy will be on Somersby in the Ryanair. JP’s horses running in other races, possibly Alberta’s Run going for the Gold Cup too.

That wouldn’t surprise me. I’m uncertain what connections have planned for Calgary Bay, whose main objective is the Grand National, but also holds an entry for the Ryanair.
Hadden Frost has struck up a fair partnership with the latter, whilst McCoy rode Somersby to his last success in the Henry VIII at Sandown.
If Calgary Bay heads straight to Aintree, I would be slightly disappointed for young Hadden. He may have made a well publicised mistake at Folkestone in February, but he’s enjoying his best season thus far and rode a superb race on Buena Vista at The Festival last year.
He has done nothing wrong on Somersby and, as is so often the case, the best jockey is not necessarily the best man for the horse.
March 10, 2011 at 14:43 #344047I too would be disappointed for Hadden Frost Bos. But he is a young, inexperienced jockey as far as Cheltenham is concerned. If it were a handicap then fair enough, let him ride; but this is a Grade 1. The best reason for getting AP to ride is that top jocks make fewer judgement errors (pace, position etc). If AP had not ridden Somersby before, then there’d be a good reason to keep Frost on board, but that is not the case.
I believe Somersby will start favourite, even if HF rides. If AP is piloting, then could start getting on for half today’s best price.
Value Is EverythingMarch 10, 2011 at 16:48 #34406220’s all gone.
March 10, 2011 at 17:21 #344070Somersby is banker material imo and that includes the Champion Chase, at 7/1 he is an e/w steal for that and i really cant see why Henrietta is bottling out of it.Somersby is not the most straight forward of rides as both Haddon and Choc will testify, neither have won on him and yet both should have.Henrietta should let AP ride him in the Champion, get him fizzed up at the start and make all,the ground will have a bit of cut in it all week, that way it will keep him away from Poquelin in this. (hopefully)
March 11, 2011 at 01:25 #344143After this fiasco with Somersby I can safely say I will never back a Henrietta Knight horse again. Now in QM again. Regardless of the reason for the switch, (compassionate as it is) the mixed messages she has sent out to the public has made me want to tear my hair out. Holding a 10/1 ticket for the Ryanair since before the VC chase and so thats twice now that the horse has been pulled out of the race. Infuriating.
March 11, 2011 at 10:54 #344170With the owner’s health problems, I think it is entirely justified that Somersby runs in the Queen Mum.

March 12, 2011 at 14:02 #344356I think
Tartak
is well overpriced at a best priced 25/1.
Course and distance winner on New Years’ Day, giving weight to some good horses. I know he is prone to the odd blunder and can be a bit hit and miss, but the majority of those far more prominant in the market also have questions to answer.
We know Tartak is a class act on his day and performs well at Cheltenham. Decent chance.
March 17, 2011 at 12:47 #345712I am keen to see how Albertas runs in this. I am getting the impression that his horrific fall at Ascot has left its mark on him. Just never looked interested at Kempton from the off. His confidence looked shot to pieces and I can’t see him figuring too prominently today.
March 17, 2011 at 13:16 #345725Am on Poquelin @ 3/1, Tartak @ 28/1 and Hey Big Spender @ 40/1.
Unfortunately, also on Riverside Theatre @ 12/1.

I hope Voy Por Ustedes runs a good race. Not from a betting point of view, it’d just be nice.

Forgive Albertas his last run, and his previous run was better form than anything in this race. Even though he tipped up, he was the only one giving Master Minded any sort of race, will love the ground, a comfortable winner last year, and should surely beat Poquelin.

So happy that Voy Por Ustedes got round o.k after getting in close on a couple.
Horses for courses, Albertas ran a cracker and as someone said his form this year (especially with Masterminded when falling) isn’t half bad.
