for the curious, he’s ridden at three (fairly run-of-mill) Tokyo racedays so far (prize money in JPY):

    Sat 8 Nov – one win (JPY 5m), two seconds (2 x 2.8m), a third (2.6m), and a fourth (2.7m)

Sun 9 Nov – one win (5m), one fourth (1.5m), one fifth (5.5m)

    Sat 15 Nov – three wins (5m, 7m, 10m), one third (4.5m), one fifth (0.5m).

so across the three days he’s won JPY 56m in prize money, or approx GBP 305,000.

(standard prize money division = 10 per cent to jockey).

    progress can be charted here:

Don’t tell Claude Duval. He seems to have an obsession about how much Mr Moore is worth

Tryin Moore is a good name for a jock
and he has had the experience of all
    these good horses.

    He was born in Brighton
so is guaranteed a good pair of lungs

    Leg action is fine but
I have always argued that Henry Moore
    had the better hands though
    and his Derby win
    represented in the
    Victoria and Albert
    still makes me gooey
    to the looey

    Horse Racing in Japan 2014:

    http://japanracing.jp/en/jpn-racing/guide/index.html

    >> Modern horse racing in Japan had its beginnings in racing events that were organised by foreign residents of Yokohama in 1862….predominantly British….<<

    >> Jockeys:

After their mounts have been declared on the day before the race, jockeys are obliged to remain in the jockeys’ quarters or jockey’s room until they mount their assigned horses.

These facilities are at racecourses, or training centers, and are equipped so that jockeys can prepare themselves mentally and physically to demonstrate their utmost abilities during races.

Furthermore, having jockeys under supervised custody in these facilities from the time their mounts have been declared until after a race has finished also has the merit of preventing undesirable incidents that might affect race outcomes. <<

    2013

    (figures in Euros):
    betting turnover:
    GB – 12.4 billion
    JPN – 19.0 billion

    total prize money:
    GB – 137 million
    JPN – 572 million

total number of flat and jump races:
    GB – 10,146 across 58 courses
    JPN – 16,122 across 25 courses

total number of societies organising racing:
    GB – 1
    JPN – 16

relatively quiet Saturday sees one win and a few placings for total prize-money of JPY 15m (GBP 80k).

of more interest ahead of tomorrow’s Japan Cup is that the rains have come, with the dirt course today riding Muddy and the turf riding Good.

Gentildonna manages only fourth in Japan Cup, adding JPY 38m to some relative loose change (JPY 3.8m) earlier in the day.

(Soumillon easily takes the JPY 250m first prize).

(it is telling that the Japanese went for the kana when this was readily available for kanji)
