Grand National winner Ryan Mania has been airlifted to hospital by air ambulance after falling at Hexham in the 3.10.
Just as racing had heaved a sigh of relief after the Grand National went without a hitch the next day this happens.
Let’s hope he isn’t seriously injured he was apparently conscious when he went in the air ambulance.
April 7, 2013 at 17:03 #435718His valet Steve Charlton reported that he was talking and moving all his limbs, both encouraging signs. Hopefully he’ll be no more than sore and stiff. A reminder of the perils all those who are legged up on racehorses face on a daily or even half hourly basis.
April 7, 2013 at 17:53 #435723Scary to see the air ambulance. Thank goodness the latest reports are good. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.
April 7, 2013 at 18:08 #435724Oh dear – he came across as a very nice young man indeed yesterday and I hope all will be well …
April 7, 2013 at 18:22 #435727Judging from the reports on BBC News earlier they were almost disappointed that the jockey wasn’t seriously hurt, terrible reporting again. As with everyone I wish Ryan all the best that he isn’t badly injured and will soon be out of hospital.
April 7, 2013 at 19:03 #435734Once again we have a dramatic illustration of just how precarious a jockeys lot can be.
At least the signs are promising – wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
April 7, 2013 at 19:05 #435736Awful to hear, especially after seeing him in those photos with Auroras this morning. Should be having one of the happiest weekends of his life.
April 7, 2013 at 20:45 #435758He tweeted at 9.30pm:
Thanks so much for all the messages. I’m grand. Staying in hospital to get another scan tomorrow then should be home. #highsandlows
Sounds good.

April 7, 2013 at 21:11 #435763Can’t put into words how relieved I am to hear that.
April 8, 2013 at 00:10 #435777What good news that it, just highlights the dangers of the sport and so glad that he is making a good recovery and having time to watch replays of a superb Grand National ride.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 8, 2013 at 09:13 #435789Just goes to show how precarious a jump jockey’s life can be.
Good news and good luck to the young Scot.

To ride his first Grand National winner with his first ride ever in the race – and on a supposed no hoper – is some achievement indeed.
Good on Sue and Harvey Smith for giving Ryan a break and having enough faith in him, otherwise he would have been lost to horse racing for good due to the lack of race riding opportunities coming his way.

April 8, 2013 at 12:23 #435799Yes thank God Ryan Mania is ok, after his impressive win on Saturday it would be a cruel twist of fate if anything happened to him. After his fall at Hexham, hope it wont be too long before he’s back in the saddle. Good Luck Ryan.
