For £20 plus quid a month RUK need to up their game. I have no problem with their live coverage but their feature programmes are poor and they don’t have enough programmes. ATR’s Sunday Forum is something RUK could try and replicate.
To top it all on the eve of Coral Eclipse day they have “This Racing Life” at 1pm – OK fine, but then to go and repeat the very same programme half an hour later is ridiculous, it stinks of laziness and complacency.
Not good enough.
July 3, 2015 at 13:11 #1121391What beats me with Racing UK (and others to varying extents of robbery) is the cost of a one day pass, compared to the monthly subscription.
It’s £10 to watch for one day and that’s extortion, particularly if there is little other substance to the broadcasts than the live races.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 3, 2015 at 14:21 #1121394I echo those sentiments, even after catching a glimpse of my bonce in the background during the Coral-Eclipse memories feature.
Today we had almost an hour of Auteuil racing replays from French Champion Hurdle day. Surely now is not the time when there are such good cards at Haydock and Sandown tomorrow to preview.
July 3, 2015 at 14:38 #1121396Features being repeated can be a bit much at times; but some are excellent (eg Gai Waterhouse). On the whole – coverage is infinitely better and much more knowledge on show than ATR imo. Latter’s Sunday Forum is great, but what else is there?

July 3, 2015 at 18:15 #1121440I subscribe to RUK for the racing and only the racing, their presenters are well short in every way a racing team to present itself should.
The presenters from ATR win hands down against the subscription channel but alas do not show action from the better racecourses.
I guess it’s all about personal opinion.July 3, 2015 at 18:36 #1121455Does anyone listen to William Hill radio?
any races that I have a token on that are not on channel 4 I tend to just listen to the guys on there.July 3, 2015 at 19:21 #1121481In fairness I pay to watch the racing and that only. I cannot stand the sycophnats who appear on there.
Why is it called RUK when it shows French racing of which I assume the vast majority of English racegoers are not interested in
Where is it free Nathan as I would cancel my subscription tomorrow if I could view it for free.July 4, 2015 at 08:41 #1121829So on this forum we have a large number of people slating C4’s coverage, others criticising ATR and now we have a thread having a go at RUK. Just what aspects of British TV racing coverage do we enjoy folks?
RUK has a large selection of presenters and every viewer will have their own favourites and dislikes. Personally I could listen to messes Mellish, neesom and Hislop talk racing all day.
My only gripe with RUK is that I have to watch Racing Replay with my finger on the mute button as certain presenters(Brown and O’Ryan included) insist on giving the results away before showing the races.
As for the cost £23 is a lot for a standalone channel but if I use a few of the club days it helps to mitigate the cost. I’m awaiting details of this Scottish September season ticket which they sent me an email about recently.
July 4, 2015 at 08:57 #1121833Why do they show so little of the horses in the preliminaries? Is it just laziness? Why would viewers want to see pictures of the extremely irritating Naughton sat on a form talking tripe or Nevison stood there saying nothing instead of looking at horses in the paddock and going to post?
Id be quite happy to see pictures directly from the track and do away with all theses presenters and pundits. Why would anyone want to listen to these so called “experts” when the majority of them know less than the viewers themselves?
July 4, 2015 at 10:23 #1122112I won’t subscribe to a channel that charges me £20 then plays me ads for William Hill, Ladbrokes and the self important promotions telling me they own all the big racecourses.
I watch on streaming and they go straight from the end of a race to the ads, either they are subscription or they are ads they need to make their minds up.
The channels needs to do away quickly with bores like Naughton & Willoughby, if I see Peter Naughton on and I don’t even bother watching, they need more personality presenters which apart from Bob Cooper is where ATR wins hands down.

I think Steve Mellish and Lydia Hislop are head and shoulders above anyone on any channel. Tom Stanley, Mark Howard, Angus McNae, Oli Bell, Dave Yates, Eddie Fremantle, Dave Nevison, Jonathan Neesom, Chris and Martin Dixon are all good at what they do. I do agree with you however about Naughton, and Willoughby and I’d add Tom O’Ryan and Niall Hannity to the “awful” list. Stewart “a” Machin irritates me.
The only people on ATR that are any good are the outstanding Matt Chapman and also Martin Kelly and Sean Boyce. The rest are abysmal – the likes of Fitzgerald, Harvey, Weaver, Cooper … shocking, absolutely shocking.

I’m using a library pc at the moment but will pm you later on tonight.
It’s not the best service as you have to go through a procedure to get there and the coverage does crash from time to time.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

I forgot Tom O’Ryan with his pretend posh voice and now to add to the RUK dross of course they are using Michael Owen as I type three promos for RUK are being shown. With 9 mins to first race not a horse in sight…. just Michael Owen and the RUK website promo, racing UK club.
Now it’s Dave Nevison talking Simon Clare….

July 5, 2015 at 15:50 #1122938Do RUK really need the likes of Nevison and the other guy they had in the studio the other night plus a presenter ? Then all the ‘ambassadors’ and likes of Gordon Brown etc, all the wages and expenses must add up.
Why not simply show the horses in the paddock, on the way to the start , the race and so onto the next race etc with just one person in the studio for results, betting shows etc ?

That would be too good to be true, so probably is.
Let’s not forget there are plenty of pigs with their snouts in the trough who require regular feeding.
Every race the other day on RUK and the horses had barely passed the winning post before that tedious Coral advert for new accounts appeared.
Sadly everything to do with the sport is infected by bookmakers, whoever let them in originally has a lot to answer for.
