Just put Thommo in his place.
Bit of a silly question to ask though i have to say.
March 14, 2008 at 16:01 #150988Missed thommos question, just heard ruby saying "dont ask such a stupid question", then thommo said "I have to ask these questions" and ruby said "no you dont".
What was the question?
March 14, 2008 at 16:01 #150989Didn’t see it what did they say?
March 14, 2008 at 16:03 #150992Thommo said, "Oh so Ruby, any regrets at picking the wrong horse to ride"
Ruby, "That’s one of the most ridiculous questions to ask"
Thommo, "Well i know but i have to ask"
Ruby, "No, you don’t have to ask me at all".
March 14, 2008 at 16:03 #150993Certainly, glad "Ruby" put him in his place.
Why on earth did they utilize him for the interview?
Regards- Matron
March 14, 2008 at 16:05 #150995Ruby’s disappointed as you’d expect.
I never think TV people should shove microphones under jockeys noses right at the end of a race anyway.
Stupid question – correct!
March 14, 2008 at 16:07 #150996Good on yer, Ruby!

March 14, 2008 at 16:08 #150998That was hilarious!! Totally knocked Thommo off his stride!!
March 14, 2008 at 16:09 #151000Well done Ruby.
March 14, 2008 at 16:12 #151002I hope someone links that clip to Youtube. In fact it should be part of the training for all budding jockeys, a masterclass in how to deal with Thommo.
What the hell was Ruby supposed to say? "Well Derek, about five minutes ago I lost the Gold Cup to the horse I could have ridden if I hadn’t made the wrong choice. My cut of the Betfair bonus has gone out the window, and now I’m wondering if I’ll ever get the ride back on Denman. No, no regrets really, best day of my life."

Should have just given Tommo the Piggott reply from 1983.
March 14, 2008 at 16:54 #151036I’m not that impressed – it was an obvious question to ask, Thommo’s job is to ask questions and Ruby agreed to be interviewed. "I’m bloody gutted" would have been an easy enough answer to give without getting all poncey about it.
But then I haven’t just lost the Gold Cup I guess.
March 14, 2008 at 17:13 #151047Rich, I would disagree. An interviewer’s job is to ask questions that give an insight, something we may not have considered or don’t already know the answer to*. Ruby had already, in answer to the very first question, said he was disappointed, so why hammer home a blindingly obvious point that my cat could understand without it having to be asked?
*Admittedly Thommo has never done this in the years I’ve been watching C4 so it would have been a miracle if he started now.
March 14, 2008 at 17:17 #151052Agreed, Cruella. If the discourse doesn’t add anything of interest to procedings, why bother?

March 14, 2008 at 17:19 #151053Yeah, I suppose. If it had been Lesley Graham, I’d probably have been cheering. Ruby can’t have been expecting an in indepth and thought provoking question, so I just thought he was being a bit graceless.
I’m not that bovvered though, honest!
March 14, 2008 at 17:21 #151056It wasn’t THAT bad. He could have easily said that he was still glad he rode Kauto as he has always ridden him, has allegiances with him etc etc… Still gives everyone their excuses to get their dig into tommo.

Are you related to Thommo? ? ?

I never say anything about him, i think he is ok to be honest, but that today was a ridiculous question to ask and i’m not suprised Ruby reacted the way he did.
