Gave up riding going to 3rd, surely if he had of pushed he would of been closer to challenge when leader fell and winnder idled.
Very poor by Ruby.
When he is good he is vvvvvvvvvvvvv good, but that was bad
October 21, 2009 at 16:04 #254598Nonesense….the horse was being pushed along before they turned in.
The horse had nothing more to give and was jumping poorly into his fences due to his tiredness.
Ruby got him sorted at them and got 2nd or 3rd when he could have finished easily unplaced.
I suppose you reckon McCoy would have got it home coz he would have beaten the animal with the whip….or even worse fallen my smashing a tired horse into a fence
October 21, 2009 at 16:13 #254602I didn’t see a great deal wrong with that ride. Kew Jumper was the better horse on the day. Ruby was niggling away a long way out and worked hard to try and keep Super Formen going. The thing with Super Formen is that he just keeps on at the one pace and once Kew Jumper went past him he was never going to get him back up.
The trip also looks like it just stretches him and I won’t be suprised to see him race over around 2m3f next time.It is very easy to criticize the jocks particularly one like Ruby who wins so many races so easily. It is easy to forget you have to have the horse under you. Even a super power packed McCoy drive wouldn’t have got that horse home over that trip
October 21, 2009 at 16:40 #254611I think Riby is a superb jockey, top class but felt that was poor. So can I ask why he stopped riding 3 out but then suddenly started riding before the last?
October 21, 2009 at 16:45 #254617He slowed down coming to the fences….
Is that what constitutes a non trier these days
October 21, 2009 at 17:32 #254627These "blatant" non triers keep being put on these pages.
This is blatantly not "blatant" if nobody or few people agree with it.
I don’t mind people having an opinion. But put that in to the thread title. e.g Was Ruby a non-trier? Or at least just put a ? on the end. re "Ruby Walsh – blatant non-trier?" There are ways of saying these things!

Agreed. Can people also put some context into their threads.Too many threads appear which have no meaning to most forumites. This is NOT the Betfair forum.

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you could alert other members of TRF to the quality of your posts by changing your username.
Possibly by replacing ‘michael’ with ‘load’.

October 21, 2009 at 17:51 #254637Should we have a thread to put all possible non-triers in one place? Or would this encourage the wrong kind of post?

Well said, AP.
Mr O’C sounds very much like the bloke whose eye I used to dread catching in the bookies’.
October 21, 2009 at 18:47 #254649Saw Ruby at Cheltenham Literature Festival on Friday night. He was asked is racing dodgy? No, he replied. If I knew which horses would win, he said, I wouldn’t be riding a horse at 30mph over a fence!
To suggest he doesn’t try is just tosh.
October 22, 2009 at 04:19 #254718to say ruby is a non trier is a load of balls although to say that sometimes a very wealthy jockey lets a young apprentice take a race might be a tad closer to the truth (not the first time i have seen this)

There are few better than the untouchable Mr. Walsh at giving horses, shall we say, an ‘easy’ time of it. Have a look at Charminamix’s run a couple of weeks ago at Roscommon for instance.
In this case though the original poster is off the mark.
October 22, 2009 at 18:04 #254807You mean that ultra reliable conveyance Charminamix who has gone off favourite on 6 of his 7 hcap starts over hurdles yet only been victorious the once?
Did it occur to you that, aside from being lame the last day, the horse doesn’t produce a great deal on the racetrack?

I’m aware of the horse’s limitations.
He eased off just after the turn into the straight, yet still asked his conveyance to jump the last two. If he knew the horse was lame he would’ve pulled it up. He must’ve thought it was alright then, which was at odds with his finishing effort.
