Read on teletext last night that Ruby had his spleen removed, cant that kill you later on? Im no medical expert but doesnt having no spleen make you susceptible to infection or something?
November 18, 2008 at 19:44 #190465see:

It was reported in the RP that Dale Gibson has had to take daily penicillin since his spleen was removed to ward off infection
As I mentioned in the post regarding my uncle’s injury, the spleen is not a vital organ in that life can go on pretty much as normal without it, unlike hepatectomy (liver removal) for example which necessitates a transplant in order to survive.
November 18, 2008 at 21:18 #190478I’d like to wish Ruby a speedy recovery. I’m sure he’ll be well advised on when it’s safe to return to action and I look forward very much to seeing him back in action.
December 11, 2008 at 00:34 #195993I was very pleasantly surprised to see Ruby will be back riding again on Friday, at Cheltenham. He’s been cleared to ride by Dr Adrian McGoldrick.
Looks like he’s got the one ride for Paul Nicholls on Mahonia, on Friday, and then he’ll be riding Celestial Halo and Silverburn on Saturday. Then off to Ireland on Sunday to ride for Willie Mullins.

My 78yo uncle managed to rupture his recently whilst digging his garden and didn’t notice anything until fainting some hours later due to internal blood loss. Patched up in hospital he was back home in a couple of days, and one month on he’s back to normal and gingerly turning his beloved soil again."
Thanks for that information Drone. You were spot on.Tremendous to see the guy back in action after that horrific injury. My initial thoughts were he’d be out for months as a pose to what? About four weeks. I hope he gets a good clear injury free run from now.
