1 horse that I saw and was robbed backing last day…weapons ams….still cant believe that mudlover pandoramma beat him last day as i’d invested a good few quid on him, and was just chinned..alas it’s never a bog come march so the form will eaily be reversed…once mickel stays away then it’s money in the bag…and dont forget course form!
January 7, 2010 at 09:51 #268417His style and head carriage have long reminded me a lot of Looks Like Trouble…Pandorama looks the likeliest winner to me at this tage.
Wrong Shabby,nothing like him!
The horse Long Run most resembeles – unsurprisingly perhaps – is Jair Du Cochet.
Of course, Jair Du Cochet was only the moral victor of the RSA Chase; having been defeated by One Knight due to the antics of that hapless erse Jacques Ricou.

resembeles would be french for resembles Grass?
Long Run looks nothing like Jair du Cochet,he was almost black in colour, his jumping was exaggerated too,he would often take off with both front legs at the same time, which looked very ungainly, the boy had an engine though and i liked him a lot,his jockey was as you say!January 7, 2010 at 10:30 #268431They were apparently a small bit disappointed with Pandorama up in Tu Va. He hadn’t worked well at Dundalk and he didn’t look as good in his coat as he did at Fairyhouse.
There’s plenty of improvement left in him and Carberry back on top come March will be a bonus.
Sure, he doesn’t have as good a turn of foot as the French breds, but how often is this race won by a classy speedy type? The RSA nearly always turns into a slog and this horse will keep galloping all the way to the line.
Imperial, your horse reminds me an awful lot of a previous RSA winner in the last 10yrs, which one? Clocks ticking!
Imperial,if you dont know the answer, there"s no shame in saying so! I thought you would have known myself!
January 7, 2010 at 11:59 #268469Wasn’t Jair du Cochet’s jumping style due to the way that his trainer trained his horses to jump; something to do with the reins?? I miss Monsieur Macairre [sp] over here; did he fall out of love with British racing, or is he happy to just sell us a lot of his horses instead? I know he was devastated when Jair du Cochet died [as were we all].
January 7, 2010 at 12:06 #268474The loss of Jair Du Cochet was too much for the genuis Guillaume too bear, and I don’t think he has had more than one or two runners over here since.
He did have one run (or at least entered) in a X-Country race a couple of years back, but the name escapes me for the moment (began with a ‘P’ I think).
January 7, 2010 at 12:25 #268483Plum’Tee is the horse you’re thinking of Grassy – ran behind Spot a couple of times at Cheltenham in 06/07.
Macaire had 9 horses run in the UK in 2007/8 season but none since.
Macaire went on record as saying he loves UK racing as the fans are more personable and horse loving than those in France – written in Paris-Turf, rough translation was that when JDC died he received 25+ letters/cards of condolence from the UK and only 3 from France.
He has plenty of decent horses – in recent years though the buying power of some of the bigger stables is greater and greater so he’s focusing a lot more on numbers and keeping hold of the genuine top quality French horses and in a way making them unattractive to UK buyers (he had a 1-2-3 in the Prix Congress, France’s premier 3yo Chase all of whom have broken their maiden and as such are unlikely to attract a UK buyer, for details on how to play the UK trainers take a look at PN’s Lady An Co).

That’s the feller, Martin.
January 7, 2010 at 12:46 #268496Doesn’t he train next to a nudist beach [or something like that]? I did get his address meaning to write to him when Jair du Cochet died, but have got a horrible feeling that I didn’t get round to doing so. The address was really weird; sounded like a fairground…Someone said something about him at the time, and the reply was ‘he’s in mourning for Jair du Cochet’. Really touched me, that did. Amazing man.

The going was yielding.

I think a few of Macaire’s had a similar jumping style. It may have been accentuated visually by the prominent leg-bandages many of his chasers carried on their forelegs.
AFAIK Macaire’s training ground was next door to Royan zoo.
January 8, 2010 at 08:20 #268708If JDC’s jumping style appeared unusual, it was very likely everything to do with the way Ricou looked on top, rather than anything to do with the horse’s technique.

Grass, Jair du Cochet was a terrible walker,a scratchy mover and an extravagant jumper,he always looked like he was reaching for one when he took off, perhaps he was! One thing though he had a good engine and was a picture to look at!His Victory against Best Mate was a pleasure to watch in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon! He was a special horse and i would have him at the top end of the Kings table!
January 8, 2010 at 09:45 #268722I noticed today that Willie Mullins stated that Cousin’s Vinny likely target is the RSA?
"He is a horse I’d like to get two runs into before Chelteham but sadly it’s getting tight. I may have to run him in one of the good novice chases rather than a beginners chase and as soon as the freeze stops I will be trying to get him out."He’ll be entered for the Arkle but I’d imagine his target could be the RSA Chase."
Would you see this as a sign that they dont plan to put MDH in here? if so, what is now the likely target for MDH?
January 8, 2010 at 10:03 #268726Mullins stated target is simply to get MDH back on track, and he has not even looked at any targets yet. When asked about MDH’s addition to Hills Champion Hurdle market, he said that nothing is ruled-in or ruled-out, as far as the Festival is concerned – "including the Champion Hurdle".
Personally, I’m not entirely convinced we will see him run this season.
January 8, 2010 at 10:24 #268730To be fair to Ricou (and he wasn’t great) he was only a kid when he was put up on France’s great hope of the future – hopefully Macaire won’t do something similar to his next big riding protege
January 8, 2010 at 10:34 #268733Grasshopper, u could be right, sounds like something is still amiss with him?? i personally cant see Mullins running MDH V Cousin Vinny in the RSA so i reckon we cud maybe rule out the RSA for him? i have a feeling he will be kept to hurdles as i cant see any horses being able to get to a track for a while with this awful weather. Wud MDH be more likely to go for the Champion Hurdle or the World Hurdle?
