I do think Long Run will be a good horse, he has lots of ability, but not at the moment. He reminds me of Kauto Star’s jumping when he was first in England, lots of mistakes, and he hasn’t exactly done bad.
It will definitely be a learning curve for the horse, tackling the fences at Cheltenham. I think it will also be a learning curve for his jockey.
February 24, 2010 at 11:12 #278779Punchestowns cried enough against Big Bucks up the hill last year.
This a gross misrepresentation, IC. Punchestowns ran all the way to the line, and never once flinched – he was simply beaten by a superior animal.

I don’t think it is quite so simple as saying finished second in the World Hurdle so will automatically get home in the RSA. There are enough doubts that he might be better at 2m5f not to taking any short prices about him against horses who will definitely stay.
February 24, 2010 at 11:31 #278783I made no reference to stamina, stilvi – it’s the assertion that Punchestowns capitulated against Big Buck’s that I take issue with.

I backed Punchestowns in in The WH last year and I don’t recall him giving in.
The weather/going is still going to play a big part in this race, if it is a real slog, and it’s looking more and more likely, I’d only consider Weird Al or Pandorama, and it would be the first time I’ve not backed Diamond Harry in his entire career
February 24, 2010 at 12:38 #278796I agree that the RSA is often won by a grinder and think that Weird Al may be the one – hope so too as I’ve got him at 33/1 and 25/1!
February 24, 2010 at 14:18 #278823Punchestowns grinded up the hill with Big Bucks, and grinded up the Sandown hill having made his stopper-mistake. Big error to see him as a flashy traveller type imo. Plus all Long Run does is grind, one pace, what a pace!
February 26, 2010 at 12:03 #279226Mikael D’Haguenet only schools after racing on Sunday, rather than taking up either of his weekend engagements. He surely has to be rated a very doubtful starter for Cheltenham.
February 26, 2010 at 12:11 #279229If MIKAEL D’HAGUENET is as good as they think he is then connections would be foolish to risk him at Cheltenham after only a racecourse gallop/school.
If he were to come out and win at the Festival 1st time out then we would be looking at a potential superstar. Unfortunately I could only see the experience harming him rather than helping him. Either draw up stumps for the season or find a small novice race somewhere and then head to Punchestown.

This ones going to the wire, connections know exactly what they want to do and while we wait, people are still betting on him for both the Arkle and the RSA, the bookies must be rubbing their hands!

They’re not the only one’s.

Now that either means you are glad he"s Not running at Cheltenham, as he will P**s all over Punchestowns in the RSA! Or you still think he could make it to the Arkle, where you would be shafting me for 2 ponies?
February 27, 2010 at 11:55 #279422It wouldn’t surprise me if Mikael went hurdling for the rest of the season and got a full novice season in next year. If he was mine I’d be thinking it’s too late in the season now and that’s the sensible option, the horse will only be seven next year and could mop up some decent races en route to the 2011 RSA

There"s only one race for Mikael next year and thats the Gold Cup Cheltenham!

To be honest, Gord, the six months I’ve had yanking your chain, and watching you tie yourself in knots, has almost been reward enough in itself.
Naturally, I’d like to see the horse run in the Arkle – just to deliver the final
coup-de-grace
……but if he runs in the RSA Chase, then so be it – and I’ll cough-up what’s due with a smile on my face.I fear we won’t be seeing the horse at all at Cheltenham, however.

In those words.i sense Defeat! Our Champion hurdle "interest" will be a cracker though!
February 28, 2010 at 00:19 #279578Annnnnnd…..back in the room.
The 2 horses at the front of the market are **** hot. MDH won’t be turning up. Pandorama the latest to fall away.
What more help do you need!
