Pandorama doesn’t need a bog.True …..but all the others would hate it
February 13, 2010 at 23:34 #276466Hmmm Uimhearaceathair could do a bit of a dent in this RSA Market. I just not sure on the Market Leaders should be as short as they are.
Its going to be a hell of a race and hats off to anyone who can pick the winner at this moment in time. Not sure about Pandorama…i would have liked him to win with more ease at XMAS but Noel Meade said he wasn’t working great so maybe at the prices he could be a bit better than we have seen so far

King said after today’s race he wasn’t that keen on meeting Diamond Harry again and Bensalem would get an entry in the William Hill…
I like Alan King but he’s surely lost his marbles if he thinks that Bensalem has a better chance against experienced handicappers than against his fellow novices.
Bensalem looks a thorough stayer and Cheltenham will suit him more than it will Diamond Harry; I’d be confident that the King gelding will turn the tables in the RSA, especially given that they only have four fences to jump in the last six or so furlongs. Whether or not either of them can beat the Henderson pair is another matter, though.
February 14, 2010 at 11:08 #276535I’ve noticed the Arkle/RSA thread on this forum is getting very tangled, it’s probably because of the Long Run entries.
I’m very critical of every horse I back before I bet, I’ve found that’s the best way to avoid losers. There are, is seems only five horses still being seriously talked about for this race, here’s my negative thoughts on each.
PUNCHESTOWN Hard to fault, the price is too skinny for what he’s done over fences and he wouldn’t get away with the sort of error he made last time out if he repeated it in The RSA
LONG RUN Not as good as his press, his jumping is a huge concern, his jockey a concern, far too short a price
DIAMOND HARRY Steering is suspect, Petrol Gauge is unreliable, the two races he’s lost, he looked the winner in each approaching the last. Bigest worry is the last 100 yards especially if he goes for a wander
PANDORAMA Needs at least this far and is less suited than most to better going. I feel he’d need to press on from the top of the hill to test the others stanima but with Paul Careberry on board that won’t happen, now if Nina got the ride….or if it’s heavy ground… or both, in which case I’ve gotta horse!!!
WEIRD AL Here’s the rub, I can’t find a flaw in his chances other than that through Knockara Beau DH has a sone or so in hand. Needs to keep on improving but he’s so lightly raced he’s got more scope than any other runner
Has anyone else taken a half empty glass look at all the leading fancies including their own?

Goosd analysis CS I too like Wierd Al he’s an improving horse and they shouldn’t keep him out the frame IMO.
I’ve watched Lon Run in France and gain just now I watched yesterdays race again.
I think he was brilliant yesterday bar once and that made no difference to him whatsoever.
He has improved his jumping no end something I thought he wouldn’t do.
Come Cheltenham I would now say he is the one they all have to beat.
I doubt if Puchestowns will cope with this horses speed as we saw against Big Bucks he’s not exactly Nijinsky.
Would like longer odds so I’ll wait until the day as hwen they see the rae card with Sam Walley Cohen riding the punters won’t back him..cos they’re daft
February 14, 2010 at 11:33 #276550Weird Al is a good horse but I thought his jockey had to bustle him along a bit in his last race in order to go and win his race.
The question is: does he have the class to trouble the likes of Punchestowns (my idea of the winner ), Diamond Harry or Long Run ?

I can’t see much sign of you looking for negatives

I saw TWO poor jumps and the strong riding it took to see off the fairly average King Edmund coming into the straight
February 14, 2010 at 11:38 #276554Weird Al is a good horse but I thought his jockey had to bustle him along a bit in his last race in order to go and win his race.
Now I thought he had a bit in hand, he’s not a horse that goingh to win races by 15 lengths
The question is: does he have the class to trouble the likes of Punchestowns (my idea of the winner ), Diamond Harry or Long Run ?
Now THAT is the question I wish I knew, what I do know is that he was considered a certainty by connections on his (fairly highly tried) debut, that tells me something
February 14, 2010 at 11:59 #276557I have small wagers on both Long run and Diamond Harry at good prices to recover my inevitable losses on Mikael, but i have 2 good bets on
Weird Al
and
Weapons Amnesty
as i see both as major players and have done for some time,Weird Al is the dark horse of the race as he is still improving and only does whats asked of him, there is more to come! there"s much more to come from bloody Davy Russell too! I think he is taking his horses name a bit too literally at the moment as when he unleashes Weapons Amnestys armoury he will take a bit of beating,we just haven"t seen the "peace talks" break down yet Davy? They will in the RSA!
February 14, 2010 at 12:05 #276558Don’t give up on Mikael, Wille Mullins page in the Racing Post indicate he is over his setbacks and is back in strong work and will have every chance of racing at Cheltenham

Yes, I see Weapon’s Amnesty as a major player too. Davy will do the business at Cheltenham! He wasn’t helped by the horses sloppy jumping last time out yet he galloped all the way to the line. My two bets, Weapon’s and Pandorama will be off the bridle before many but they’ll keep going all the way to the line. One has to worry, though, if the ship has sailed by then!
February 14, 2010 at 13:38 #276576Weird Al for me.

I bought a copy of the Post just to read what you are saying Sea Pigeon,i still have a sense of fragility about the horses well being, but it would be great to see him back in either the Arkle or the RSA,i would quite happily lose my wager with Grass now as i have snaffled all the silly prices about him winning either, 140 for the Arkle and 34 for the RSA!
No to be honest i would love to show Grass who"s boss!
February 14, 2010 at 14:31 #276591Pandorama is fast becoming the forgotten horse here. You need a real slogger for this race and Pandorama will jump and gallop. There is nothing between himself and Diamond Harry on a line through Mikael D’Haguenet yet he is three times the price?
He’ll confirm Leopardstown form with Weapons Amnesty too. He was well below his best that day after having a hard race in the Drinmore only a few weeks previously. Unlike in previous years, Noel will go to Cheltenham with a lot of fresh horses this year (neither Pandorama or Go Native having a run between Christmas and Cheltenham).

unless it comes up very soft obviously! If only we were allowed to have a private wager Imperial, Evens the pair would be a good battle!
February 14, 2010 at 15:51 #276613. Davy will do the business at Cheltenham!
He was brilliant on Luska Lad yesterday, ok, game horse but superb riding and judgement of the pace….. and that’s coming from someone who backed Muirhead (for the last time)

Agreed, IC.
He’s a solid ew option for the race.
Only beaten once onder rules in a Mickey Mouse race and currently unbeaten over fences with the benefit of three outings. Sure to stay, tough and won’t mind the undulations.
Big chance if the ground comes up soft.
