One of the peoples favourite Seargant Cecil is a short enought price today for the Royal Oak. I would imagine that Lord du sud may yet go off favourite but would prefer deeper ground yet I fancy Darasamar and in particular Montare could cause the horse of the year most problems.
October 22, 2006 at 13:17 #80830The race is over 2m (pretty much) in france (so it should be slow), everything would appear to suit him, there does look to be a few like montare and rising cross who have form over shorter and could present a problem. Whether they’ll like a slow clip for an extra distance remains to be seen, he is a horse who like things a certain way and i’ll have to avoid him at silly prices.
As Claire Balding pointed out, it simply wasn’t far enough for him.;)
October 22, 2006 at 15:33 #80832The race has panned out pretty much the how I would have expected. Sgt Cecil, as Ive said before is proably best between 1m6f and 2m but enters races over further in the hope of a slow clip. I havent seen a the time of the race or a replay but my suspicion is that the race has been run slowly and he has been tapped for toe by a filly and a colt who are at their best at an even shorter trip than him. If that is the case then he has been beaten at his own game, and so it would appear that what goes around comes around;)
Claire Balding:biggrin: Hasnt he won at 2 miles already this season, which was well touted as a brilliant performance?

Had it been 2 miles today, he would have just about got up.
Claire Balding- should have added myself, and the rest of Western Europe also, although I doubt it would have made much difference.
