Good evening to all, may i begin by wishing all Forumites a Happy 2008 and of course hopefully a profitable one :) especially to my fellow Golfing chums Swallow Cottage and MillyMo. :D

Well hopefully we have all recharged the batteries from the past fortnight or so’s festive activities, mine always seem to be flat .

Thankfully there is a quiet beginning to get us going so without further ado, let’s get this years pantomine off and running.

All roads lead to Hawaii although not mine :) for the Mercedes Benz Championship.

Having scoured the odds available today i could at first glance not get away from the Favs Furyk and Singh, but have decided to put Vijay to room 101, so Jim Furyk will be my No 1.

The supporting cast will be made up of Mike Weir and as i have had a few Bob on Zach Johnson for the Us Money list W/O Tiger i suppose i should give him a run as well, as this is the only Tournament this week i am going to afford myself the luxury of a 4th selection a bit daft perhaps, but safe in the knowledge that the Snorkel will be close at hand should the need arise  , the one and only Woody Austin will complete my quartet for this week, so as always whatever your picke Be Lucky.

    Cheers for now.

    Adrian.

Cheers Wakeman and a happy new year to you and Mike and everybody else on the forum.
As it’s cold and I wish I was in Hawaii then I’ll be brief and say that my three picks this week are V J Singh who has to be respected at this course even though he’s not much of a price + Steve Stricker and Daniel Chopra who both played well at the end of last season.

OK I’m off to bed now to keep warm. Good luck.

Apologies Mike, have made a complete Horlicks of putting your name in ,would seem that a set of bins are required.

At least Pete has had the sense to back Vijay, Will more than Likely regret not doing him, but i’m sure it won’t be the last time i have that to bother me.

Speak later, day 2 of 4 awaits at the office, going to be a long one me thinks.

    Cheers for now.

    Hi Adrian and Pete,

Happy New Year to you both, and to all on TRF.

Don’t worry about my name Adrian, I’ve been called much worse  .

Well I have got very little opinions on this weeks event in the good old U S of A. But as it’s the only golf tournament on TV this week I simply must have a bit of interest.

Unfortunately the pin fell on KJ Choi at 16/1, who did me a few favours last year and I’m hoping it continues. A little each way on that excellent putter Scot Verplank at 28/1 is my other selection.

    I’m looking forward to the golf year that is 2008 very much and I’m going to set you both (Adrian and Pete) a little challenge for next week. Quite simply, I want 4 selections from you;

    1. One to watch on the European Tour
    2. One to watch on the PGA Tour
    3. A selection for the Order of Merit (win or e/w)
    4. A selection for the US Money List (win or e/w)

Anyone else, please feel free to offer selections also – the more the merrier.

    Speak soon,

    Mike

Alex Cejka is a player I would like to add.Although he didnt win any events
last season he did have 4 top 10’s and 6 top 25’s this player will start most tournaments at big prices, imho you should be looking to back this player to place or on the finishing position in the spread markets in the low key events (were the top players choose to miss)
Heres hes stats from last season,
    Driving Distance 288.9 94th
    Driving Accuracy Percentage 68.08% 36th
Greens in Regulation Pct. 69.44% 6th
    Putting Average 1.771 46th GIR Putts – 1,727 Greens Hit – 975
    Eagles (Holes per) 240.0 99th
    Birdie Average 3.61 32nd
    Scoring Average 70.34 38th
    Sand Save Percentage 57.27% 16th

    Happy new year guys

Welcome to the forum Stable Star and I hope you will continue to give us your opinions on golf. If my memory is correct ( which is questionable at this time of year after too many beers over Xmas ) then Alex Cejka came quite close to winning the Masters a few years ago……it was about the time when I first started betting on golf. I noticed that he started to play better last year as well.

To answer Mike’s challenge and I am never one to resist a challenge :)

    1. One to watch on the European Tour – I don’t follow the european tour as closely as the US one and I know this is not very original but I expect Ross Fisher to progress further this year and win more events.

    2. One to watch on the PGA Tour – John Mallinger is my choice and I think he’s more than capable of winning a pga event hopefully at decent odds…..100/1 maybe….. but he’ll probably do so when I don’t back him :(

    3. A selection for the Order of Merit (win or e/w) – Henrik Stenson and my money is already on him to win.

    4. A selection for the US Money List (win or e/w) – Tiger Woods to win – simply because it means I am going to get at least one out of four correct :D

    Thanks for the welcome SwallowCottage
Ive opted for and taking a very chancy bet onNick Watney @ 50’s,he started last season with a tied 13th in the Bob Hope and then 9th in the Buick,in 9 rounds in hes first two tourneys last season he posted 4 sub 70 rounds and hes worst round was 71.

    Hi guys,
I have backed Weir, Verplank and Watney on some of your recommendations :? I rarely bet on golf and don’t think I have ever won, so sorry if I have cursed those selections!! But I love golf and since I have given up on those dreaded Placepots, I’ll give golf a go
Good luck with your others, Crizzy.

Hi again everyone, i to would like to welcome Stable Star to the Forum and hope that he will stay with us as Pete and Mike have said the more the merrier.

To answer Mike’s interesting challenge, i have come up with this lot.

European Tour. if he can build on his form from the latter part of 2007 then i feel that Simon Dyson can certainly pay his way this year.

European Order Of Merit. have already got an interest in Robert Karlsson, have a tidy E/W already.

PGA Tour. this for me is very tricky, again one who impressed me towards the end of 2007 was Hunter Mahan, whether he can mix it with the Big boys or not only time will tell, but i have a feeling that he to could more than pay his way.

PGA Order Of Merit, i have played very Chicken here and have a small E/W on Zach Johnson in the without Woods Market, has to prove that his Masters triumph was no flash in the pan but unless you look outside Tiger, Jim Furyk[/b],Mickelson [/b:3q7tj451]and Vijay who i’m sure between them will mop up the lions share of tournaments, where do you start.

Hope you don’t mind but the Ladies Tours both PGA and European promise to be the best for some time, i have one lady who i will be watching very closely if she does not mind  that is Linda Wessberg.

    Cheers for now.

    Adrian.

Hi Crizzy, a warm welcome to you also, no need to apologise at least on my count, between us all let’s hope we can achieve a few returns :).

    All the best.

Welcome crizzy and good luck. You are being wise in ignoring any of my selections…..it won’t be long until you get your first golf winner if you continue with this method :)

Also I just want to say that I agree with Adrian when he says that Hunter Mahan could more than pay his way this season and I nearly selected him ahead of John Mallinger as my player to watch on the USA tour.

    Cheers for now.
