Read earlier today that Paul and Clare Rooney have quit the jumps and all their NH horses are for sale.
I suppose it is not a surprise. Their heart was clearly not in the game after the horrible incident with Starchitect. I expect I would have felt the same if he had been mine.
It will be interesting to see who buys them. They still had some good horses like If The Cap Fits.
The writing was pretty much on the wall a long time ago. The only problem with decent flat horses is that they cost a lot more than jumpers do. Most likely they’ll have fewer horses in training, but will enjoy it more thanks to the lower risks involved in Flat racing.I wonder if they considered keeping a few of their NH horses and run them in decent staying races. Just as Willie Mullins does with his dual purpose horses.
