I only really enjoyed Ronnie Barker in Porridge and Open All Hours.
The episode where he and Nurse Gladys were driving to the wedding and he had to hang his trousers out of the car as they smelled of mothballs was classic.😅🤣😂

The passing of Richard Beckinsale was tragic and can understand why Ronnie Barker was unable to speak of him.
He was such a gorgeous looking guy and seeing him in Rising Damp and Porridge still makes me sad..he was a natural.. Leonard Rossiter saw it and so did Ronnie Barker.

    a Very Happy Valentines day

… even if you are wantonly kissing yourself in the mirror, when you put your eaters in this morning. :rose:

Just got in – and have to say I think Valentine’s day and Mother’s day and Father’s day are a complete RIP off – however sometimes you have to think of value in a broader church way. After reflecing on my purchases for some time on the park brench I bought some more roses on the way back plus a bottle of Krone and some crisps and mature cheddar. 🧐

    The CHIP MAN cometh
    but I’ve forgotten the
    Bloody peas.

Ronnie Corbett stayed at the Grosvenor House Park Lane – same time I worked there. If I can remember rightly he drank whisky and every drink he ordered he left a £1 at the bar.

As a valentines day saver myself
I’m rather pleased with the saving after the days losses on the Circus thread.

This is excellent news – I now feel I can indulge in an extra three or four takeaways without a shred of conscience or remorse, not that I was ever big on either quality, tbf.

I will toast those TWO guilt free purchases Ian, and your masterful taming of possibly the two greatest sleep depriving ogres known to man; conscience and remorse, which behind the alarm clock, are the worst silent killers in the shortening of life expectancy – a long way ahead of crab disease and afflictions of the heart.

Sean Connery was another reluctant actor just like the brilliant Barker. Sean sensibly retired at 73 and kept a permanent suite at the Grosvenor House – the reason as I explained to a co-worker – to hone his shaken not stirred down to a fine art. He was loved by women the world over.

Tbh being disliked by women the world over also has its benefits – the annual 14th February savings being but one.

I’ve never supported this Valentines nonsense.

Why should I pay rip off prices for doing what I can do any other day of the year?

If adherence to Valentines Day is a prerequisite for a successful relationship, I would suggest there is something seriously wrong with said relationship.

Who said romance is dead? :rose:

Not done Valentines day for many many years, in fact I’m such a romantic that I’ve even persuaded the missus that Christmas presents from each other are a bad idea. Just birthdays and anniversaries to go to get the Yankee up

It wasn’t until recently when watching a program about Richard that I didn’t knew he was wearing a wig in Rising Damp, because it was filmed same time as Porridge.

As for Ronnie Barker, the two Ronnies weren’t bad, but more a Morecambe and Wise fan.

Porridge and Open All Hours started off as a short one off from a series of plays called 7 of 1

One that didn’t make it was Ronnie Barker and Roy Castle in a play called “Another Fine Mess” where they played Laurel and Hardy impersonators.
