I firmly believe Rip Van Winkle will put in a brilliant performance in the Sussex here and prove HE IS BACK

It will need to be vergy very good to beat Canford but he will do it.

A brilliant miler when at his best, I think hes going to be spot on following prep at Royal Ascot

    Wow….

What a race RIP ran but my word what a class horse Canford is.

Brilliant effort from O Brien to get RIP back, and great ride from Moore but Canford must be very very very special…

I backed him to win and thought Ryan did absolutely
Everything he could, great tactical ride but beaten by a better horse.

Spot on, I thought Rip ran a superb race and Moore was brilliant on him, thats what makes Canfords victory all the more impressive, the fact that everything went right for RIP but Canford still beat him.

I thought Canford was defiitely the best 3 year old miler before Ascot, he confirmed it there for all to see, I think hes put the marker down to Goldikova today…..

Rip ran a great race but Ryan never threw the Kitchen sink at him,Richard certainly had to get serious to close the gap but the best horse "On the day" won! Great race!

I wouldn’t think RIP is back based on the back of that performance. Canford Cliffs was cantering all over him and Hughes just seemed to be toying with him.

That wasn’t RIP recapturing the form of his Eclipse run last year. I don’t think RIP will put in another decent top level win again in his career.

Id completely disagree with you on that. Hughes toying with him? No Im sorry I dont think so

Hughes did have to work hard to get by but you would expect that against a top of his game Rip Van Winkle, just look at what Rip did to last years field, I felt he was every bit as good today but Canford is just a better horse. RIP lost nothing in defeat an ran a brilliant race but just beaten by a horse with more ability, I didnt think it would be the case beforehand but now I know differently.

Despite running such a brilliant race where to now for RIP???

Hes a very good horse but I cant now see him winning another group one mile event if coming up against either Goldikova or Canford Cliffs….

Would you keep going for the mile events and come up against such a talented crop of milers or step up to a less talented bunch of 1 mile 2 horses?

The Juddmonte or Newmarket Champion Stakes surely represent his best chance to grab another group one success… Surely he could win the Juddmonte???

We’ll agree to differ. I’m afraid I’ll have to wait for future races to see definitive proof RIP is back. For me he was well beaten and CC had the measure of him at all times.

…look at what Rip did to last years field, I felt he was every bit as good today…

Last year, he beat Paco Boy by 2½ lengths, Ghanaati by 6½ lengths, Forgotten Voice by 7¾ lengths and Lord Shanakill by 9 lengths.

This year, he beat Premio Loco by 3¼ lengths, Beethoven by 4 lengths and Dream Eater by 4¾ lengths.

And you felt he was every bit as good today. Interesting.

Kept the faith today but must admit I thought I was beat everywhere bar the line.

Definitely did not expect to see him ridden so patiently today.

Great race to watch and the form doesnt get much better with the 2nd and 3rd

    Where to now?

It looks like he’ll go for the QEII next and then on to the Breeders Cup for either the mile or the Classic.

The QEII could be a brilliant race with Makfi vs Canford Cliffs vs Rip Van Winkle. Hopefully they all turn up.

Looking further ahead to the Breeders Cup, Coolmore usually like a runner in the Classic so at this stage I would have thought Rip would be the one they’d aim at that race. He’d certainly be better prepared to run well at the Breeders Cup this year than he was last year but whether he’d handle the Dirt surface is open to question.

They should not ride this horse with a Whip. Simply hates it.

Keep the whip out of the race and we will see more improvement again

Personally id leave the QE to the specialist milers RVW ran like a mile and a half horse today(even though hes probably better at 1m 3f) so id leave the short trips alone. Id run him in the Irish Champion Stakes then on to the Breeders Cup after if he were mine
