I think Temptress may well be too good. Has a touch of class about her and whatever happens today I think she will be competing against better company by the end of the season, chalked her up at 15/8 myself but the lack of pace on display and given Pontefract can be a prominent/front running haven if you get the fractions right, Merry Me looks a really interesting contender. No bigger than 6/1 now, was available at 9s and 10s early.

Shame Sandahl does not go in the opening nursery now, the 2/1 looked like a wheel barrow job! That York maiden looks very strong he won last time up, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th all won since. He is entered in the July stakes on Thursday. Really like Tasleet out of that maiden to be useful in time. Was quite a display from him racing keenly, jumping the path, having a look at the others horses to his left when staying on the latter stages! Bolted in at Chepstow next time out.

What 2yo’s have impressed you most so far this season Steve?

Aside from Newmarket today there are plenty of meetings and races going on and I like the look of one in the 3.00 at Carlisle.

Spiraea was left with a bit too much to do last time out when trying in vain to come from well off the pace at Pontefract behind the inform Gran Canaria Queen. Going OK in rear but with plenty to do, she was a tad short of room at the top of the straight when making ground and by the time GCQ was at the furlong market the race was over having gone clear, Spiraea was 6 or so lengths ahead of her at that point. Stayed on well and passed most of the field going on strongly for 2nd and clear of the 3rd but could never get to the winner. Looks an easier opportunity and should be more forgiving course for her to come with a run from off the pace. A fan of Percy’s Gal but fancy her to have the beating of that filly who would want it softer.

    2pt win Spiraea 6/1 (Lads & Hills BOG) –

      Non runner!

Sorry, I didn’t see the question until now.

It’s early days yet but Alice Springs is the horse who has excited me most so far. The daughter of Galileo was deeply impressive on her debut and is set to tackle group 2 company next time.

Sandahl ended up out of his depth today, seems the wrong call in retrospect but they have found out his level now. I thought he was outclassed in the paddock, he’s smaller and has less scope, particularly compared to the impressively built winner today, Shalaa.

I have a feeling we have yet to see the best colts, Aiden O Brien has the usual shed load and Jim Bolger has his share by the look of it. Final Frontier looked really good for Jess Harrington on his debut but I can’t say I ever got rich following her flat horses. Just a few holes appearing in the Royal Ascot two year old colt form and we will see how Illuminate and some of the other fillies get on this week.

John Gosden has a horse out this week who probably won’t be much of a price but who looked a colt ready to win next time when he was a narrow second on his debut. Von Blucher is a son of first season sire Zoffany, who has been doing so well. He was beaten a neck at Sandown and runs tomorrow in a maiden at Newmarket. The race is full of well bred horses but his experience and the Gosden/Moore factor will surely see him go off favourite and I think he’ll take some beating before going on to better things.

Temptress stank the place out in the end and perhaps the change from cavalry charge handicap company to a smaller listed race was part of the problem. A bit annoying when a horse with little form goes and beats your own horse after the price contracts and the fav is a no show!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Aye Steve, Alice Springs looks full of potential, nice pedigree to back her up as well. As fillies go Lumiere looked very impressive yesterday and looks to have some serious ability.

Varian had an interesting one out on debut last week, Haalick. Plenty green enough on debut but oozed class showing some impressive acceleration late on having failed to get much racing room, Graham Lee was up to his old Haydock trick of seeing how long he could stay on the inside line before trying to get a run!

Mighty competitive stuff floating about today thought, the opening sprint at Ascot is just that, but it looks an interesting affair to play some decent prices.

Firstly, the Henry Candy trained Son Of Africa looks interesting back into handicaps after stepping up in class last time out in the Coral Charge. Despite being well out of things on ratings, he certainly did not look out of place stepped up in class. He would have fared better if not for meeting traffic on more than one occasion and in the end could never land a serious blow, he had been very impressive taking apart a handicap field at Newmarket previously and looks a horse on the up and is worth a chance in here.

1pt win Son Of Africa 16/1 top, 14/1 general

Secondly Indescribable who was scratched from Newmarket on Friday on account of the watered ground not being fast enough looks a huge price for the inform Johnston yard. He was car parked at Chester last time out and you can stick a line straight through that run. Touched off just a nose at Ayr on his penultimate start the form has a real solid look about it backing up his good win at York back in May. He is certainly improving and in form improving Johnston runners are the flavour at the moment.

    1pt win Indescribable 28/1 general

May main fancy for this is Gamesome, a horse that will relish dropping back to the minimum. He is all speed and having been pegged back in the final 100 having hit the front at Windsor he looks like he will be well suited to today’s race.

Jallota carried a few onions for me last time out at York and I would happily side with him again at 14/1 in the Bunbury Cup. He travelled strongly down into the final 300 or so at York last time out having laid up with a sound pace and dug deep in front showing his class. He will go well again today and in another competitive race will be right in there come the line

    1pt win Jallota 14/1 general

Well, not much of that went to plan! Fancied putting something a bit different up with the Ascot race, Jallota ran well enough, was really keen to be against Ayaar but would never have faniced Rene Mathis.

    -3pts

Muhaarar could scarcely have been more impressive yesterday, if he was in today’s race I fancy he would win it. Was immediately scrambling to oddschecker for some prices for the July Cup and have got on at 6/1 now.

    July Cup 2pt win Muhaarar 6/1 – 1st SP 2/1 +12 pts

Cheers Joni, would have been sick had that gone the other way. Backed tropics in the Diamond Jubilee and did not go back in on him today

Expect the Foret will be on the Agenda for Muhaarar now

Ayaar was a ridiculous price, as was Ajman Bridge later in the John Smith’s Cup. I got a better run with my Mount Logan at 16/1 ante-post selection. He was never quite going the pace today and seems to be crying out for at least a mile and a half.

Jallota was my pick today at an each-way price against Ayaar, I thought he might nab a place but in the end couldn’t quite get there.

These punters love the silly priced favourites at rank value odds.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Quite some time since I posted on here! Those who do/did know me, I’ve had some issues with depression and general anxiety for a couple of years and at the time I disappeared off here I had a pretty bad crash which led me down a dark path. Been on the mend and took some time away from following racing and other things just go get back to basics. Hopefully be around here more in the future now. Hope all are well x

I suffer from general anxiety disorder which seems to lead to depression. I can relate and you’re not alone.
