Pleased to see that Ashville won 2-0 today and did John Dennett proud.

I see that another minnow from your neck of the woods, Fylde, are top of the National League.
Better known for their rugby club who’ve had various internationals play for them, notably Bill Beaumont.
March 29, 2026 at 09:09 #1761382I am not that disappointed really. We gave it a go but they battered us in the second half. The difference between a full time team and a part time set up.
Considering the club was almost wound up last summer, we have come a long way. At the start of the season, the idea of being 40 minutes away from Wembley and there being a sold out fan zone in the local park would have been laughable.
We beat Fylde in the last 16 and play them again on 18th April. They probably wouldn’t thank you for being called minnows! They are bankrolled by a local multimillionaire named David Haythornthwaite, who made his fortune from selling food supplements for farm livestock. He is also a major donor to Reform.
He bought the old Kirkham and Wesham FC, renamed them AFC Fylde, built a new stadium and has thrown fortunes at the club. He wants to get them into the Football League.
The problem is: hardly anyone supports Fylde. They are stuck between Preston and Blackpool, both with long histories and strong fanbases. There simply isn’t room for another team in that region. It is more a rich man’s vanity project than football club.
