How this man manages to get any mounts at all is beyond me.I never back any horse he’s riding even if i really fancy it because he has an awful habit of making any horse at all run badly! Is there a worse jockey out there with anywhere near the profile this boy has?
October 26, 2010 at 13:31 #324657Seconded. Not a favourite of mine.
Are you having a moan after his ride on above all in the first at Yarmouth? If so, I don’t think he could do much to make any difference, horse wasn’t good enough on this occasion.
October 26, 2010 at 13:37 #324661Ah no haven’t even seen that race, just speaking in general as i was talking to a friend of mine last night and he maintains Hills is one of the best jockeys to have on a good horse,i was wondering was i the only one that didn’t rate him at all.
October 26, 2010 at 13:56 #324667There have been a few threads on here, some defending him and others opposing.
All a matter of opinion.
October 26, 2010 at 14:00 #324668Can’t be long before his staunchest supporter on these august pages has his say, q.v.

October 26, 2010 at 14:10 #324671I struggle to forgive him for that ride on Elzaam at Royal Ascot still.

What this thread needs is someone to add some of his better rides and career achievements into the equation then we as a forum can debate as to wether Richard Hills is a good or bad jockey over a period of time.
October 26, 2010 at 16:42 #324708Talk with your money like me, I simply will not wager anything on any horse he is on.

Talking with money will cause a group shift or a risky shift if you like, this is when we as a forum talk about a subject in this case Richard Hills but the factor of money causes people to goto extremes in the fact that the topic of conversation will no longer be productive for example; those who will have backed this inparticular mount will refuse to listen to those who didn’t back with their money and will go to new lengths to back their cause even if what they say isn’t necessarily what they believe in but the group rather becomes a battlefield trying to get one over on each other and this is a group shift.

To be fair, he didn’t create the thread.

Thanks and also, I’ve put my thoughts forward in a civilised manner.
October 26, 2010 at 18:10 #324734Personally i dont bother that much about jockeys i will back an apprentice if i think the horse is good enough R Hills is as good as the next of course he has ridden a few stinkers name a jockey how has not, but his ridding of Laaheb in particular has been exellent this season.
October 27, 2010 at 08:38 #324826Richard Hills rides in style suited to his position as Max Tomb’s retained jockey. He dosen’t ride like a job jockey all out desperate to win at all costs whatever the impact on the horse. He is extremely fortunate to have a retainer to ride the horses that he does.
If Carson had chosen Harayir in the 1,000 he may not have his position at all. Fair play to him for taking his opportunity. In terms of ability he has never in my opinion been in the top ten riders in any season that he has ridden.
October 27, 2010 at 10:29 #324832several armchair jockeys seem to have a very poor opinion of R. Hills ability in the saddle.
personally, I haven’t noticed that he is that stand out bad,
anybody got a couple of stats to support their opinion.
ie. winners to rides compared to top 10 jockeys
prize money won yearly basis, compared to other top jocks.
not trying to question peoples opinion just curious if stats support it.
