I see there is a fair bit of support for Leave of Absence here, and although I hadn’t anticipated an early bet on him for this, I’ve taken 33-1 ew while it’s still there
February 14, 2025 at 20:24 #1720535Peaky Boy has switched trainers. Quite strange in my opinion. I liked his runs earlier this season and I will gave him a chance in graded company.
Peaky Boy 7/1
February 15, 2025 at 11:52 #1720602Jingko Blue has Grade 2 winning form and should not be inconvenienced by a test of speed / goodish going at the trip.
Peaky Boy’s form isn’t far behind the favourite’s but has moved from Hendo to Jonjo – less likely to be both as good as he was or improve on it. Is the change of stables due to concentrating the owner’s horses in one yard? Peaky Boy’s sire and dam’s sire both Ascot Gold Cup winners… And the way he runs suggests will need them to go a decent pace here. Knowing the stable, will connections be looking more for a good handicap mark for Cheltenham?

The Changing Man needs to find some improvement but I can see him running well with the trainer in good form. But will he put it all in? I’ve backed him twice this season and has the dreaded seconditus after looking the most likely winner on occasions.
Leave Of Absence has an ironic name. Only seen the racecourse 5 times in 3 years. Including placed in the Aintree bumper for Chris Gordon. Now with Anthony Honeyball and fair chase debut behind Iberico Lord, but with 2 of the 4 runners pulled up and the winner making mistakes… What’s the form worth?
Again, not seen since November. Asking a lot for one with his lack of experience to win a race like this. Although may get a softish lead now Lowry’s Bar is out.tbh I am surprised Jingko Bay isn’t shorter than the current 5/6. Rare odds-on bet for me.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 15, 2025 at 12:14 #1720625No bet in this, for me.
February 15, 2025 at 14:04 #1720648Well done Silver Spoon with a nice ew there
February 17, 2025 at 15:34 #1720800I was at Ascot on Saturday and not at all taken with Peaky Boy before the race. He’s not got much size and it’s hard to see him improving on what he’s already done when with Henderson. He was also dull and dry in his coat and although his performance was very poor, the defeat was no surprise.
If you pull up the replay of the race, there’s a few seconds of him and the winner in a head on shot as they pass the post with a circuit to run. That highlights how much smaller than the winner he is, not just in terms of height, but also how narrow he is across his chest.
