I have always wondered why King doesnt come over more.
I remember he was interviewed after the year Blazing Bailey won and he said he loved it and would be back with a larger team next year round…… For some reason he didnt return at all the next year.
Moving it to the afternoon was a brilliant idea, attracted huge crowds last year.
Why Pipe ignores the festival like his father did is beyond me although he doesnt have good enough horses so perhaps thats why

The four year old race is without doubt the best 4 yr old race this season…

He has the ammo alright Joncol, you just need to look at his Cheltenham record to see that.

His record in handicaps is terribly good alright but doubt somehow he has a horse good enough to compete in the Grade Ones at Punchetown

i think over the next 5/10 years punchy will overtake liverpool as the 2nd biggest NH meeting in GB and ireland
Do you? Now
I
think that Aintree is most certainly going to overtake Cheltenham, so where does that leave us in this game of rock/paper/scissors??
The problem with "punchy" is the same as "chelters": i.e. they both go on for longer than humanity or horseflesh can stand. Aintree, with a glorious quality-packed 3 days culminating in the greatest horse race in the world, has a much better concentration of thrills than either of them.

Quite frankly bar the National itself I find the Aintree meeting all very boring.

Half the problem with Aintree is the BBC production and more so McGrath commentating. I think he is a good flat commentator but certainly not jump racing in my opinion..
April 19, 2010 at 23:05 #291270Apparently Ruby is joining Ted and Bob Hall on RTÉ’s coverage tomorrow.

April 20, 2010 at 15:33 #291341antree is getting better and better with each season but how long will it be before they go to 4 days?
April 20, 2010 at 20:01 #291380Hats off to the thousands of UK punters who made trojan efforts to be here today- to my eye the crowd looked up on last year and I saw many faces from across the water who had braved long car and ferry journeys to see a fabulous card.
April 20, 2010 at 20:54 #2913932,000 down on last year apparently Carv. Good show in the circumstances.
April 21, 2010 at 09:47 #291472Today is the day that shows the effect of extending to 5 days- sadly a lot of dross apart from the G1.
April 21, 2010 at 11:34 #291486Makes the chances of getting the jackpot rollover even tougher.
This used to be one of the better days when it included the mares hurdle and the 2m2 novice.
