Is he ok after that fall at Taunton? Only saw a recording on ATR.It seemed a very tired fall, so I’m hoping he got up.

He did get up and Nicholls and Skelton were with him as he was walked away – they seemed to be totally ignoring Ruby Walsh who was being attended to be a couple of ambulance staff in yellow jackets.

Don’t know if the horse was 100%, but he was upright and walking.

    Thanks AP.

Yes, Ruby did seem to take a right thumping on the ground. Hope he is ok too.

Paul Nicholls was interviewed by Mick Fitzgerald after Special Occasion’s victory in the 2.50 and he said that both horse and jockey were fine.

I’d backed Pocket Aces at 14-1 but i wouldn’t have enjoyed the win if the horse had been injured. I never bother about the jockeys either i just look to see if the horse gets up.

Which one was gonna win ? Pocket Aces was closing but Recif de Thai wasn’t beat by any means.

Not sure who would have won.

Recif De Thaix seemed to be doing everything easily, but then when pressed, seemed to be going up and down on the spot.

A bit of what goes around, comes around where Pocket Aces is concerned, of course, having been deprived a winning chase debut at Fontwell two runs earlier courtesy of a last fence fall.

For my money the greater momentum was with the Rowe gelding at the time of the spill, and that length deficit was a gradually diminishing one as he and Recif De Thaix bore down on the last.

Pocket Aces’ form around galloping or stiff tracks to date reads 90F07P6P, so notwithstanding recent gains I’d not be wanting to touch him in a decent 2m4f handicap around a Cheltenham or Newbury with the proverbial claggy stick. My next thought was that the 2m4f novices’ handicap at Kempton on Boxing Day would be tailormade for him, but that’s a 0-130 and it wouldn’t require much action from the assessor to bar him from that contest, having entered the Taunton race on a perch of 128.

Possibly a tad hard to place hereafter, then?

I take your point but at 14-1 he wasn’t expected to be in the shake up yesterday especially with his penalty, but he seems a much better horse over fences and jumps really well so although he looks better on tight right-handed tracks you never know until you go.

I would be cautious at somewhere like Newbury but might just give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

Ideal spot for Pocket Aces at Fontwell on Jan 8th, a 2m 6f novice chase worth £12,000.

Ah, well spotted that man! There’s also graduation chases in the short term as well, come to think of it.
