When egalitarian equal rights campaigners were lobbying a hundred years ago I think it’s fair to say that when it came to the first ever female PM they mostly weren’t thinking of someone like Margaret Thatcher and when it came to the first non-caucasian PM they didn’t have someone like Rishi Sunak in mind either.

What a win double that was.

Maybe in a parallel universe somewhere there’s a female, non-white, raised in an inner city Tower block, who went to her local Comprehensive, running the country.

The closest we’ve got so far in this reality on some levels is Alex Scott – who I have since read was in her infant childhood in tough Poplar, while I was lazing around in my Yuppie Docklands apartment on the other side of the Isle Of Dogs – making it onto BBC Sport!

I’m sure I said a while back the only way the war would be stopped was if the Russians brought down Putin themselves ……Revolution is in the air , Putin may well have to pull troops to protect Moscow

Composing “Ride Of The Valkyries,” a Russian paramilitary organisation and once landing a gamble in a Hereford Hunters’ Chase – that Wagner hasn’t half got about.

I’m seeing reports now (on reddit) that the Wagner group has halted their march towards Moscow because they’re struck a deal with Belarus?

That’s all I have at the moment, will keep updating!

    Next General Election

    Most Seats
    Labour 1.17
    Conservatives 6.8

    Overall Majority
    Labour 1.55
    No Overall Majority 3.65
    Conservatives 10.5

I hadn’t checked for a bit and this is the shortest I can remember Labour being snide the 2019 Election.

I’m a little unclear on how you recruit 300,000 to a profession currently beset with strikes over pay without improving pay in that profession.

It’s also unclear why we are supposed to believe that the party which has been in charge for 13 years is the one to fix all the problems that we now have.

By this point they really should be saying, ‘we’ve been here for 13 years and look at all this great stuff we did, vote for us to make sure it continues’ but all you get is ‘we’ll fix it, honest, we really mean it this time’ and attacks on Labour. Can anyone actually point to something positive that they have managed to achieve in all this time?

Not content with being a third rate Prime Minister, Sunak now proves he knows nothing about cricket as well:

Perhaps he should ‘stick to politics’?

Sportspeople are told to ‘stick to’ their area of expertise when they offer an opinion on politics on Twitter.

It is invariably total cringe when politicians get involved in sport in any way. Just don’t do it.

“Sportspeople are told to ‘stick to’ their area of expertise when they offer an opinion on politics on Twitter.”

Not bad advice, to be fair. Sir Andy Murray has remarked how he supports the aims of Just Stop Oil but not their methods.

Presumably all those flights he has taken around the world were on those special planes powered by the sun and the wind.

Was going to dig up the virtue signalling celebs thread for this but in a similar vein, I assume you’ve probably seen this:

    https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/jul/03/celebrities-call-on-wimbledon-drop-barclays-sponsorship-richard-curtis-emma-thompson

I wonder which banks hold their vast fortunes, how their pensions are invested etc. Would be nice if they told us, which they could. If they can dig into the affairs of Barclays they are I’m sure more than capable of telling us about their own finances. That’s before we get on to the vast carbon emissions associated with their various careers. What was that about greenwashing?

Labour continue to shorten in both markets.

Like Andy Murray I support the aims of Just Stop Oil but not their methods. However, I watched Question Time last week and was very impressed with Dale Vince who is one of their benefactors. To be honest I’d never heard of him before so I googled him. His comment that ‘the weather disrupted more of Wimbledon than the Just Stop Oil protester’ did make me think and think again. The problem is that no one pays attention to peaceful protest that causes no disruption whatsoever. And climate change is so terrifying most people, me included, would rather not think about it.

I wonder what would happen to me if I invaded the pitch of Vince’s football club during a match because I disagree with his and its stance on veganism?

Peaceful protest may or may not work but disrupting events that people spend considerable time and money attending probably won’t either.
