I know the ratings awarded to horses have been argued about many times before but I was looking at the top ratings last night:

    147 Frankel
    145 Sea-Bird
    144    Brigadier Gerard, Tudor Minstrel
    143    Flightline
    142    Abernant, Ribot
    141    Mill Reef
140    Dancing Brave, Dubai Millennium, Harbinger, Sea The Stars, Shergar, Vaguely Noble
139    Arrogate, Generous, Pappa Fourways, Reference Point

Dancing Brave 140, Reference Point only one pound behind.

Is that for real? Dancing Brave won the Guineas, strolled home in an Eclipse, won a King George and then triumphed in the Arc with a scintillating performance against one of the strongest fields ever assembled.

Reference Point defeated Most Welcome in the Derby, was beaten in the Eclipse, then won a King George, Great Voltigeur (SP 1/10) and St Leger before finishing eighth in the Arc (OK, he finished lame).

And he is one pound behind Dancing Brave?

The great horse would have laughed at him.

And dual arc winner alleged not there. Ratings are always a matter of opinion and not fact. I’d have el gran senor very near the top and sea bird followed by ribot as the top two. Harbinger at 140 is nonsense to be honest.Imho,of course.
