I heard him described as looking like Father Christmas – a rather unfortunate analogy.
Although I can’t help thinking his disguise is actually irrelevant as I think his "discovery" is more a result of political expediency to support an EU membership application than anything else. My suspicion is the authorities have known where he is all along.
Whilst there is no doubt he has a case to answer the credibility of the tribunal will be questioned unless and until they investigate George W with the same vigour.

Whilst I see where you’re coming from, the fact that there is a tribunal at all is a good thing. It is inevitable that they won’t be able to satisfy everyone’s idea of justice but the arrest, trial and imprisonment of Karadic and hopefully Mladic (along with the others, Croatians/Bosnians alike) who are still at large, can only be a good thing.

Sorry Andrew – I did not mean to denegrade the work the tribunal has done so far – I just wish it would extend its brief to some of thecurrent conflicts as well.
July 22, 2008 at 21:13 #174299I agree, but I can’t see it will ever happen. Perhaps one day it will be powerful enough to indict Western Presidents/Prime Ministers, perhaps former Russian Presidents too, but they have to start somewhere.
July 22, 2008 at 21:24 #174304… and I am sure it is just coincidence that the US does not recognise the tribunal
July 22, 2008 at 21:29 #174306What a very cynical view
July 23, 2008 at 12:41 #174383I find myself agreeing with you on this one Firefox
Although as far as Iraq is concerned it is a moot point who, if anyone, has actually "won", or is "winning" the war.

I thought he looked like Ronnie Drew.

July 23, 2008 at 15:52 #174432Can we not just hand him over to the Romanians – they did a bloody good job last time.

Depends which side you are on ………
July 27, 2008 at 17:24 #175039The tribunal is a waste of time if they dont have the death penalty as an option.
This bloke killed arounf 200,000 people, they hung Saddam for 180.
